Amon > Zaheer in terms of ideology
Zaheer > Amon in everything else, especially personality, quotes, voice-acting, design, abilities and fighting-style.
But yeah, until the final episode of Book 1, Amon was very awesome.

The Avatar state isn't deus ex, it was Korra losing her powers in episode 13 and gaining them back easily at the end of the same episode. Pacing was the issue.

Yeah, I also was disappointed that Season 2 didn't follow up on any of the lingering threads from Book 1. Like investigating Amon and Tarlaqq's disappearance, what happened to those hundreds of Equalist supporters. Did they all just give up and go home, unpunished? Things like that.

Idk man, I think Zaheer was pretty bamf. That thing he did to the Earth Queen, is legendary!
The avatar state is most definitely dues ex. Aang lived for 100 years on nothing solely due to it. Aang synced with a water spirit instantly due to it. The list goes on and on. Korra regaining her bending from an energy bender shouldn't surprise you if the above is cool.

That's a season 2 flaw given the fact that amon was exposed as a hypocrite undermined their whole revolution, but that whats made amon so great. He's an obito done right.

killing 1 queen doesn't compare to stripping thousands of their bending. In this world/verse losing bending was a worse fate than death leaving the victim to be a shell of their former self.

zaheer doesn't trump amon in anything. amon is like darth vader when it comes to fighting, and his actions put fear in damn near everyone. where as nobody was backing down from zaheer.

When you put it like that yeah... Can't argue. Even when you consider the Avatar being a "special clause" of OPness.

Amon put Republic City on edge and martial law because he had the support of the people. Zaheer murdered the Earth Queen and plunged the entire Earth Kingdom in to anarchy. Something that took Kuvira 3 years to bring order to.

With Amon, I feel he was ruined when it was explained he was a water bender the whole time, and how he cuts and runs after he's unmasked in front of everyone. The ending of Season 1 just felt all to clean. Amon should've stuck it out or at least tried to.

Yeah, Zaheer achieved much more, almost by himself. And he wasn't ruined in the end like Amon, Zaheer even became some sort of supporter to Korra. One of the greatest things in the show if you ask me.

Amon was great but his ending ruined everything else. Someone who acts so cold and calm all the time becomes such a whiny loser just because his secret is revealed. That's the same pattern that destroyed Naruto's "Tobi/Obito".
If Amon had at least tried to achieved his goals, then he would be totally fine and a character as good as Zaheer.

I'm talking about his direct actions. Zaheer killing the queen had alot of fallout because she was an un just queen, and left a vacuum gap. compared to stripping ppl of their bending its not much. Him being a hypocrite is reminiscent of hitler himself. It made him good, showing that in true villain fashion ends justify means.

And don't go crediting zaheer for that solely when we all know it was him and his group.

So we shouldn't give Zaheer credit for what he did with help of 3 other people, while you give Amon credit for what he couldn't have done if he didn't have the great support of people and chi-blockers.
Zaheer, with less help than Amon, changed much more in the world and had more impact on Korra than Amon did. So?

oh im sorry, since when did someone help amon do something only amon can do? Last i checked killing can be done by anybody, and the result would have been roughly the same. Power vaccum in her death and ppl looting whats theirs.

Ohh. I disagree with that. Now, I will say Zaheer is "better" than Amon as in feats or powerful Zaheer is like Madara while Amon is Tobi. Amon/Tobi is my favorite of the two, but Zaheer/Madara is clearly the more powerful one if that makes sense), but Amon has an amazing design, amazing voice, amazing personality, cool abilities and a nice fight style.

Now, all that may be pointless if I confused the signs lol

Anyway, I love both. I love Amon way more, but both are amazing.

My #1 favorite is Azula, even though I hate her ending.

2). Toph
3). Uncle Iroh
4). Suki
5). Aang
6). Tenzin
Nice list. Loving the airbender love, yo and Suki, yeah!

I actually love her ending. I think her ending could have been way expanded on in the comics, but she just seems crazy sorta. I was hoping for something different. I like to imagine she became sane and wasn't the lost cause Iroh thought she was. I do think Zuko, Ursa, Ty Lee, Mai, maybe even Aang and his friends somehow got through to her, you know? That'd be nice.

LoK was good but not as good as TLA...
Love both, but agreed. TLA, to me, is Batman: TAS and TOL is Batman Beyond. Both are amazing, but the first one my heart. Second was super nice, but the first is a classic.

The best character of ATLA

Naa, you have misunderstood me.
Of course Amon was the only one who could take away bending.. but without the support of the public and his chi-blockers, he would not be as successful as he was.
Zaheer on the other hand, had like just a hand full of people who supported him and almost everywhere he went, everyone was against him and fought him and his few supporters. Imagine Amon in this position. He would have to fight literally EVERYONE.
That is the difference I meant.

I think you confused the signs.
Anyway, I also like both of them, but Amon's cowardice/gutlessness (don't know which word is correct here) in the end ruined his character a lot in my opinion. WHY did he run away like a loser, instead of sticking to his plan/goal? Just because he wouldn't have that much support of his betrayed people? That doesn't make sense at all, if we look at the mysterious, cold character with the mask.

You are right, he is A LOT like Tobi from Naruto.
Both were great until the mask fell off. After that, both of them became just whiny losers.

That's why I like Zaheer much more overall.. especially personality-wise. He stayed true to himself, nevertheless changed while not becoming a loser who just gives up. But that's just an opinion. To each his own : )

Well, you do know that the comics aren't over yet, do you? So Azulas story is not over.. I'm going to guarantee you.. she will redeem herself and become sane again in the currently ongoing comic "Smoke and shadow".
