Gurren Lagann was one of the best anime I've ever seen, despite how crazy it gets near the end. It had a good message and an inspiring ending. There's literally something for everybody to enjoy in TTGL.
Death Note was another series I really enjoyed. It seemed to start off a bit slow, but things get quite tense about half-way though with L. I liked how intelligent and unexpected it could be as well. xD
I'd probably say Darker Than Black in third place. Plenty of action and an awesome finale, but the second season was a let-down.
Surprisingly, I'd put Naruto Shippuden quite low on my list. It has a few good moments (Team 7 reunion at Orochi's hideout, Naruto vs Pain, etc), but it's not as good as many other series I've watched.
