You should totally try to learn Hiragana and Katakana. A lot of Japanese is written with it and you'll at least be able to read any Shounen Jump manga (as even Kanji have small Hiragana next to it to show how it's pronounced).

Yeah, I got nothin'. I'm half Greek/Black and don't speak a lick of Greek or African (even though my great-granny is a full blooded Native American, which means I have more real American blood than, um, most people hahah).

It takes dedication. I learned the language on my own and have had Hitomi with me for two years. The numbering system may drive you to suicide though.

Yup, you got it. However, 'desu' isn't always necessary. Using 'desu' is like speaking without contractions and taking it a step further (I'm hungry becomes I am indeed hungry, it kind of feels like that).

But, because you're referring to yourself as 'kawaii', then 'desu' would make sense, as it's very girly (no offense, Japanese explicitly differentiates the sexes).
