Based on?

Based on the fact that Raikiri is just a nickname for Chidori. Kakashis chidori got that name after he cut lightning, so he changed the name. However it is still a chidori at the end of the say, all raikiri is, is a nickname.

Even deidara kept calling sasukes chidori a raikiri. Sasuke had to correct him and say that his is called chidori. They are the exact same jutsu nevertheless.

Yeah but Raikiri is the concentrated version of Chidori.

DB1 Chidori:
When Kakashi uses it, "Chidori" is known as "Raikiri".

DB1 Raikiri:
Kakashi's "Chidori" cut lightning...that legend is the origin of the name "Raikiri".

Chidori and Raikiri are the same.

Raikiri just sounds cooler. And after all its Kakashi's technique so he can pick the name, and he is the one who says raikiri so for me its raikiri.

Databook is the most un accurate source ever.........

How could Kakashi teach sasuke a jutsu Chidori if he does not have it himself?

1. The seals are different for chidori and raikiri
2. It says chidori is concentrated in the arm while raikiri is concentrated in the hand. Hand>arm in terms of area of concentration thus its pretty safe to say raikiri is more concentrated. Greater concentration=more power.

The seals are diffrent? Does not matter same jutsu. Chidori is focused in the arm no im going to need more then databook as a source.

Still did not answer my question on how can he teach someone a jutsu he does not know.

1. Different seals mean different levels of justu even if they share the same properties. Mei's water dragon is 1 seal and dwarfs kakashi/zabuza 44 seal water dragon.
chidori is focused on the arm raikiri is focused on the hand.

What do you mean he does not know. He created both.

Can't believe people are saying Chidori and Raikiri is the same thing when they have different seals, ranks, and classifications in the MANGA, and DATABOOK. SmH.

Databook.
Gai and the databook say it's just a nickname.

I re-read the databook..seriously? You can clearly see that chidori is made in the hand and not arm. I'm pretty sure the writers didn't care about whether they wrote arm or hand.

So you get to cherry pick over whether its just a nick name but i can't cherry pick over the difference between an arm and a hand?

and no the two are quite different.

Arm:腕
Hand:手

There's no "lost in translation" there

Im not cherry picking. The db says its just a nickname, Gai says its just a nickname. So why should I believe otherwise. I'm saying the writer may not have cared whether he wrote arm or hand, since he's still getting the same message across.

Besides that, I've never ever in my life seen sasuke concentrate chidori in the arm, that doesn't even make sense. If you actually think that makes any sense, then good for you. But whenever I see chidori, it's always the exact same as raikiri.

Here is the story of chidori:
Chidori (千鳥) means "a thousand birds". It's from a story about a sixteenth-century military commander named Tachibana Dousetsu, who owned a sword named the Chidori. One day, he was struck by lightning while sitting under a tree. Acting quickly, he drew his sword and cut the Thunder God riding the lightning. This saved his life and after this incident, he changed the name of his sword from Chidori to Raikiri (雷切, "Lightning Cutter").

Literally all Kakashi did was rename his chidori.
