In class this week we discussed the Boston bombing like everyone else. But one major issue is how suspects was categorized. They first were called dark-skinned and later labelled as Russians, yet from an looking at them solely based off the color of their skin, they appear to be white.

The reason why we brought this up is because, when a suspect is labelled as a terrorist they have to be that one a minority group. Usually when a suspect is being looked for they call them either "Hispanic" "black" categorizing all Hispanic and black looking individuals. Yet, when these bombers are described they are darker skinned, this including mostly all minority groups, yet indeed they are white skinned.

I found this interesting and quite disturbing how bias news broadcasters are. I think I made this clear
Does anyone notice this?
Is this nothing at all?
Is society still racist

just interested in opinions, not to really debate.

Well I live in the UK so I only saw a little of the broadcasts. But It's pretty common for when a terrorist attack to happen blame a dark skinned person because of the stereotype.

Its not really racist, its just the news and media f*cking up like usual.. I mean when you mention a Dark suspect, to be honest thats what a lot of Americans were expecting. Ever since 9/11 the perception of Islam and Muslim people here has been warped by ignorance. I am saying this as someone who is Black. I mean its really funny, because Chechnya is located in the Caucus mountain area, which is where the name for the Caucasian race derives from. LOL

It's the way of the world, mate.

No its not the way of the world, it is collective ignorance, stereotyping, a form of Racial profiling. Take it from a colored person, its not something you just pass off and say its the way of the world, as if it cannot be helped. Its perfectly fine to be acknowledged as offensive, you say it as if it is something normal and should be accepted. Absolutely not. IF not clarify your self you seem really ignorant saying it the way you did. sorry if i snapped on you but, had to get that off ma chest.

I don't know what most Americans assumed, initially I thought this was possibly an attack from North Korea with all that's happening. But what made people automatically think of 9/11? Did people think that of Connecticut school shooting or the theater shooting?

Unfortunately. Just when we speak of trying to make this a color-blind society, situations like this make such further impossible than they already are.

I said 9/11 because that's when a lot of the ignorance and stereotyping about muslims began, or Profiling , there are extremists and psycho paths of every color, race, and creed. I'll put it this way, I have tons of muslim friends who tell me all the time certain looks they get after stuff like this goes down, depending on what part of the country, or even state they are in, or travel to. Its just ignorance, and it seems more evident after terrorist attacks occur, But can you really blame people for being stupid?

Lol It's because of people like you that it hasn't changed, You seem as if you can't except change at all. At least acknowledge that it is ignorant to be that way, or you are just another part of the problem.

I do blame people for being stupid. History shows that stupid behavior will only harm society and racial issues is what worse of them all.

We will never have a colorblind society.

So we should ignore it ans accept things as they are?

I think it helps more to show them they are wrong then to use their own tactic against them.

Just go with the flow.

While I am all for "going with the flow" for most situations, instances as this you can't go with the flow. How will it than be addressed or made aware of? Again sorry for all the questions lol
