Can any frech speaker explain to me the difference between des, de, de la and du ?
if it´s possible with an example , thanks in advance

Des is simply the plural of de

du is equivalent to de le. so du is basically the masculine of de la

Je viens de le québec , is wrong you must say Je viens du québec since quebec is masculine
also des is a contraction of "de les" which is both masculine and femenine
you cant use des les though

de could mean of as in possession, but it is also used to indicate a quantity
if "la" comes after de, it stays "de la"
if "l'" comes after, it stays de l'
if "le" comes after de it becomes "du"
if "les" comes after de it becomes des

if you don't use an article infront of a noun in english, you use "de l' / de la / des / du " (relative pronouns)
example: I eat cheese
Je mange du fromage

but if you indicate a quantity it'll be just de
so I'm eating a lot of cheese
Je mange beaucoup de fromage

ofcourse there are many exceptions and there is more than just this
but just to get a basic understanding

you basically use it when there is no ''the'' before the noun

Example: He's eating apples
in french you can't say '' Il mange pommes'' you say '' Il mange des pommes'' instead.
In this case you're using des because it's plural.

Quantity: de or d'
'' Il mange beaucoup de pommes''
'' J'ai un verre d'eau'' so you're not using de l'eau !!!
negative: de or d'
'' Je n'ai pas de pommes '' so NO DES !!!

no only plurals you already have de l' , du and de la for the singulars

just to add something that hasn't been said yet [i guess][i didn't even read all the posts]


des is also used if you don't know the exactly amount of something,like:
-> Tu as des pêches?
-> Il y a des livres

After saying the amount of the thing you're talking about you use de and then the thing without an article.for example:
->J'ai un kilo de farine.
see?the article la [la farine] will not be added

If the word/thing you're gonna use does begin with a,e,i,o,u, or h the la/le turns into l'
for example:
-> l'ecole
-> de l'eau
-> l'hôpital
