Question on Jubi Jins....

How in the heck did madara and obito gain complete control of the Juubi? While naruto and bee had to get cooperation from their respective bijuu in order to get complete control? I know one of the requirements in order to get some control over the bijuu is to "fill the empty void" in your heart. Which is what naruto did to get kcm but in madara/Obito's case when they did that they some how got full control over the ten tails skipping the requirement of needing the bijuus partnership. is it because unlike the juubi, the hachibi and kyuubi are sentient? idk...
