Why is naruto's last name uzumaki when his fathers is namikaze? Is it in jap culture to take the mothers last name, or they just weren't married so minato was just her baby daddy...?

ok ok, i knew it was in the plot being naruto didnt know who his father was in the beggining, just didnt know if it would still be uzumaki if everyone knew all along
