Question for Photographers

I want to buy a Camera to take good pictures (Like a Canon-Rebel or Nikon)

Is it better to buy new or used? I didn't want to spend too much and was wondering what I have to look out for when buying a used camera.

Its really more up to the lenses rather than the camera.

If you're buying lenses, id go with new as you dont know whether it may have gotten morphed and scratch from the previous owners (note: that they are extremely expensive)
