Question about torrents

So recently i've discovered how to download games and moves via torrents because I'm a huge gaming fan and i buy almost any game i see which usually ends up in me buying some crappy games and getting ripped off and blowing off all my pocket money. Just yesterday, i was bragging to my friends about how i could download games for free ( because their dumber then me and still haven't learned the awesome art of pirating). Then one guy suddenly tells me that downloading games for free is illegal and i could be arrested for doing it. I just shrugged him off and thought that he was pulling my leg but it does kinda worry me because i live quite near the police station. So will you really get arrested if police catch you doing it? I know i should've just down downloaded games from torrent sites in the first place but I'm a real gaming addict and lets be honest, I'm not the only one who does it right?

Depends where you live. If you download copyrighted material in some countries, it is considered illegal. The problem with torrents is that when you seed, you're uploading the material too which again depending on where you live is considered illegal.

it's extremely unlikely but yes you could but i wouldn't worry it's near to impossible to get caught unless you actually document it and show the police... but yah just to say i would probable be doing life in prison for all that i have downloaded.... jk jk but still your not the only one who does it...

Think about it- who would they arrest?

The one guy/website that uploads the contents or the millions who download those contents?

There's no risk for downloading contents its the uploader that MIGHT be at risk even thats a long shot.

If you seed when you torrent, you're technically uploading the content too.

The police station has got nothing to do with this. Crimes on the internet falls under the cyber cell of your state or area. The only possible way you can get caught is if you download something like a newly released film or something like that. The recent Expendables movie leak had a major set backs on many sites like WrZko (my fav site). When you are downloading games, there is nothing you need to worry about.. The cyber cell tracks you with your IP address, you can use a proxy to hide your real IP but I doubt it'd work against the cyber cell.. Oh and yeah, I'm an uploader at kickass torrents and haven't been caught yet

I have been torrenting for 10 years now, never bought a single game or a movie or any form of entertainment for that matter.

You can download free stuff to your heart's content, don't worry.

Way too late, but don't go crazy on it and if its to good to be true don't download certain things. I try not to do it to much to stay invisible. Also, my friend got a letter from the company once you get the letter don't continue for awhile because they will be watching you.

Edit:And I'm glad I don't know you in real life because you seem like a fake friend. What friend tells others their friends are dumb? Just so you know there is a saying birds fly in the same flock. But thats none of my business anyways.
