Question about the Sage

So does anybody know whether or not the sage of the six paths was born with the rinnegan or if it was granted to him as a result of the juubi sealing? I was under the impression that he was born with the eyes, thus allowing him to beat the juubi. I thought that Obito had said he was born with them when he was giving that history lesson at the 5 Kage summit, but it was brought to my attention that it isn't the case. Was it Jiraiya that said it when he first saw Nagato's eyes? Or Madara when he was talking to the first while they were fighting in the war? Or does nobody know because it was never mentioned, and it's just a figment of my imagination?

I think he was born with them, or at least attained them some point before fighting the Jubi. We know people can gain the Rinnegan w/o the Jubi's power. It was never stated that he was born with them though, but it was also never stated that he got the Rinnegan after sealing the Jubi.

I think he was born with it. The pure chakra from the Juubi gave him the rinnegan.

He awakened it, so being born with it isnt possible. but the thing is it can go either way.. like he could've had it before becoming the juubi's jin or after sealing...
