Question about Pein/ Madara

I've always been confused about this, this is one of the reasons im not to fond of his characters.

I know that Yahikos dead, but the question i've always wondered is did pein have his own personality or was everything coming from Nagato?

that's why I don't like pein cause I was never confirmed on that and I don't like Nagato... which put me in a rock and a hard place and by this time Orochimaru was already sealed away and seemed like fodder, Sasuke was far to repetitive with his motives (made me stop reading at some point) Itachi was a big banwagon, and there was a large tobi confusion so I didn't know what to do about that but then Madara comes into play and everythings better I have a character with a decent personality and arrogance they can back up with force, a little mystery to their motives, the fanbase was moderate and he was in fact not fodder.

Yes the Pein's had no personality of their own, it was all Nagato.
They were basically just corpses that he moved and spoke through.

Deva path was just in yahikos body, it was still nagato and had all the abilities of nagato, there was no yahikos personality there otherwise the akatsuki wouldnt be a bunch of mercanaries to begin with
