If I want to send oda a question so that he can display it on the SBS in future volumes, how do I go about sending him a question? Like do I have to email them or and if so, where?

Fan letters are usually sent to Shonen Jump, then they give them to the authors if they ever request so. Since One Piece is an extremely popular manga, hundreds of letters are probably sent in each week, so don't expect your question to be shown in Oda's SBS. You can always try, though.

I'm pretty sure it's sent to Shonen Jump company and then it goes to Oda. Not to burst your bubble or anything but I'm sure many people do this especially in Japan so the odds of your specific question being featured is slim. This shouldn't discourage you from doing this but it's just a reminder.

If your question makes it and it's not "Which of the Strawhats are virgins" then so help me

I'd ask 3 main questions: :snick:

1) Who is Luffy's mother?
2) What happened in the void century?
3) What does "D" stand for?

Even if one is slightly answered. Even a single word response i'd be happy :p

Those 3 questions would be ignored

I would open the SBS or ask him if Dragon's birthday could be the same day as mine, 80% of the time SBS is for fun because Oda doesn't discuss anything that we'll get in the manga in the future, the other 20% is for fun trivia about the story.

if anyone wants to send Oda-san his/her love, here's the address to write to.

----this one is for general fan-mail------------
Mr. Eiichiro Oda
c/o Shueisha/ Weekly Shonen Jump

2-5-10 Hitotsubashi
Chiyoda, Tokyo JAPAN
Zip: 101-8050

-----this one is for SBS & Usopp Gallery (and fan mail too, i suppose)-----------

SBS (or Usopp Gallery)
c/o Shueisha JC, ONE PIECE

PO Box 66
JP Post Kanda-Branch
Tokyo JAPAN
Zip: 119-0163

- for SBS & Usopp Gallery you are supposed to put down your contact information.
- it is also encouraged that you use a postcard for your entry.

----------------

now here's some pointers:

1) don't use big words, and avoid idioms/ expressions.
i guess most internet-forum users nowadays, who daily interact with foreign people, are doing fine with this.

2) be extra-careful with your handwriting.
please bear in mind that most Japanese people cannot read hand-writing of an average US student ;-) the idea is to try making the letters look close to the typeface (arial?) just like the one used on this forum) so that it is easily discernible.

example1: out of question

example2: pretty good, but you should probably place letters slightly more apart from each other. for example, "clients" looks "dients" to an untrained eye.

3) do refrain from commenting on things that are NOT officially available where you are.
some of us may have forgotten this, but what we are doing is, well, not exactly legally right ;-) i'm sure most of you support him by purchasing the officially released comics or viewing anime streamed from a legit channel... but if you are not, be careful about it; Japanese people (and especially editors/ publishers) are well aware of scanlations and fansubs - and generally very critical about it (that's another topic altogether... i'm just saying)

4) don't be afraid to write Japanese words/ letters
believe me, it would give them a very good impression; most Japanese people simply appreciate, and are generally impressed, when foreign folks try and write in Japanese, even in very rudimentary form of it, like saying "thank you" in Hiragana.

5) draw cute pictures
it never hurts, although Oda-san seems to like creepy drawings just as much.

7) don't expect a reply
i remember him clearly saying that he has no time to reply (he did say that he still read and appreciated them).

Was on OPB a few days back.

I dont think revealing luffy's mother would be spoiling, would it?

There is probably an address/e-mail for sending letters and messages for the SBS. A quick Google and you should find it.

You send it to viz in the US and not to shounen in Japan I think, it's in one of the earlier volumes but I can't recall it that well

As said the chances are slim, but an other forum send something in multiple times as a group and made it to the SBS twice.

Once with a question and once with a request from Oda what the public would like to see (alternative strawhat themes) and they send in the RPG-time

Now that I take a closer look at my post with the RPG time,

Stone golem Franky looks a lot like Pica, Pica already had Franky's build with his length and shoulders and now he also has this fruit power which enables him to use stone. Did Oda maybe get inspired here for his Pica idea ?

That's actually the first thing that popped into my head. XD
