Question about hunter x hunter

I'm really liking the anime so far, the English dub from adult swim, my question is, is the old anime of hunter x hunter is the same as the new one? Is the old anime base on the manga as well as the new one?What chapter is the adult swim version is right now? Cos I'm planning to read the manga. Is the manga version already finish?

They are a lil bit different when it comes to censorship but other than that, the new one is better because it covers more chapters than the OG one.

@OP, the manga is so frequently on hiatus, that the fanbase dubbed the HxH series "Hiatus x Hiatus".

the old HxH anime covers the same story but it has much more filler in it while the 2011 basically stays set on the manga. But the old anime ran until the middle of the yorknew arc and ended on a huge cliffhanger. But ovas were created to pick up what's left up until the beginning of the Chimera Ant arc.

Don't know the chapter the dub is on but they are currently starting the heaven's arena arc.

Manga is on hiatus right now. Who knows when it'll be back. It's not finished but something tells me the arc it's on right now may be the final one.

There's not that much filler and the 2011 has those dumb as recap episodes which are just as bad or worse than a filler. 99 version had a total of 5 filler episodes, 2011 had 2 recap episodes so really 99 only had 3 more "wasted" episodes than 2011.

And it's odd how everyone who says 2011 stayed on the manga better ignores the fact the 2011 version omitted those first moments in the manga when Gon met Kite, learned of his father, got his father's hunter license from Kite and was inspired to start his journey. For a scene that is essentially the catalyst to the whole story it seems odd to be left out, so the 99 was actually more to the manga in that regard as they included that scene.

I have actually watched the 1999 series but you have to admit if one wants to watch an adaption that only covers the manga story 2011 is it. That's what I was getting at in my post. I agree that the 2011 adapation is guilty of skipping some things 1999 adapted.

No lmao. 99 version has 5 chapters of filler + screen time of filler every single chapter.

And in the only aspect 99 is closer to the manga is the one you mentioned in Kite's scene... that didn't really change much at the end.
