To my prior knowledge, I believe Puppetry was developed in Sunagakure. They use these humanoid puppets as violent war machines to conquer wars/feuds. Puppet is the way of using small by strong threads to control various types of puppets. Many are animals such as the crow and salamander, whilst some use an actual human, like what Sasori did with the 3rd Kazekage. With this, they are able to fight in long range while controlling the puppet.
Their Weakness is Short-Range I believe. Since the threads are close to each other, they can easily tangle with each other and lost control of their puppets. Their strengths are Long Range. Since the threads are spread apart, the user can freely move the puppet accurately. Also they would be safe from any attacks from an opponent. Monzaemon Chikamatsu, the original creator of Puppets desired them to be entertainment purposes only.
I'm so so sorry for the late reply.

For the most part you're right, especially on the origins of it. I more like to know what you understand on weaknesses and strengths so that you know how to fight as a puppet user and what to work with, which in this case half of what you've said isn't 100% correct.
I'll start with your strengths: while it's true that a puppeteer's strength is long-range, it's not because you've got more freedom or anythimg, but moreso because that's how a puppeteer chooses to fight. From fighting at a distance, you can give yourself freedom into using anything the puppet can have, from poisons to their own basic Taijutsu movements (we'll touch base on this later) to limiting what your opponent can do. An example being Genjutsu, with their weakness being that most of them are only capable of reaching up to a mid-range point whereas you can outrange them.
As for weaknesses, short-range is a considerable weakness but not because of why you mentioned. Puppeteers don't use actual strings but chakra threads, which can easily phase through one another to get what you need from them. It's not necessarily a weakness to have puppets all bunched up together. Generally it's seen as a weakness because it opens you up to Taijutsu attacks, and other such close-range encounters which can screw you right over in a fight since you'd need to be focusing on your puppets to attack. Personally I don't see it as a weakness since a good ninja knows not to use solely one thing to fight, and Taijutsu primary users shouldn't be in your range. I find a weakness to be anything which can get inside the puppets and shut them down completely. Those being your primary source of fighting power, without them you can't really do much. Really Aburama, Iron Sand, anything like that can and probably will hinder the puppet entirely, preventing you from using it.
Are there any other strengths or weaknesses you can think about? I want you to be really specific as to what they are.
