Since the gas is poisonous, it will kill the enemy if he inhales it. So to be sure , stun the enemy with a genjutsu or distract him with anything you could do. Even if he doesnt inhale , he will still lose sight of you , so this technique is a pretty good one nevertheless.

A huge wind of gust would push the gass directly at your enemy.

Attaching strings to the puppet ,Sasori opens puppets mouth for it to shoot several smoke bombs. They will burst and release a poisonous gas around the enemy which will block his vision , as well as kill him should he inhale it. Then Sasori throws few shurikens to make sure the foe's dead .
