[HA] Puppet tricks with the drinking buddy

Ah, let the fun begin.

Sasori, a man who had once aligned himself with the village of Sunagakure and had ties with the infamous gang of criminals, the akatsuki, approached an area surrounded by puppets. Although his ties with the Akatsuki had been broken, he still donned a black cloak with a red cloud pattern that resembled that of the infamous cloak worn by the akatsuki. The high collar of the cloak covered his chin, and the hood was pulled over his head, revealing only part of his face. He wore a blank expression and his eyes were emotionless.

He walked slowly towards the destination where he was scheduled to meet his drinking buddy a sensei that would aid him in re-learning the ways of puppetry. It had been awhile since Sasori had any involvement with puppets and his skills with them were somewhat rusty. A little touching up would restore his knowledge and capabilities of using puppets.

The man that was supposed to train him was a renowned puppet user, Yu, of Konohagakure. Sasori had heard many stories of the man but had never met him in person. His personal opinion of Konohagakure shinobi were that they were peasants (idk),but he respected a few of them, especially that damn Sakura who had teamed with his Granny to battle him some time ago.

…Where is he, I don’t like to wait.

Sasori mumbled with a look of disdain on his face. Waiting for others wasn’t something that he enjoyed doing but then again, who did? He took a few moments to admire the puppets that he was surrounded by. The sight of the puppets made Sasori even more eager to meet this Yu character. Where could he be?

Souji, formerly known as Yu, stumbled upon the area where he was to meet a Suna puppet user. It was strange... one of the village's primary secrets and pride was being taught to this person by a foreigner, namely Souji. When it came to the proliferation of jutsu and abilities, they would transcend boundaries. Ninjutsu was the common bond that all ninjas shared, despite conflicts of interests and the shedding of blood. There was always room to learn.

Seeing Sasori, Souji noted his student's mannerisms, attire, and whatnot. This was going to... enlightening, to put it mildly.

"Hello there! You're here to learn puppetry, correct?" he waved, speaking clearly and with a sense of cordiality.

Sasori laid his calm but chilling eyes upon the konohagakure shinobi that made his way, stumbling over to him. “He must be drunk, this better not be a waste of my time” ,Sasori mumbled to himself as Souji approached him. He couldn’t believe that this man was known for his use of puppets. He didn’t appear to be a ninja capable of teaching in the opinion of Sasori. Not judging a book by its cover, Sasori decided to see what the man was all about, and give his training a go. After Souji spoke and asked if Sasori was here to learn puppetry, Sasori replied in a sarcastic manner…

Of course I am here to learn puppetry, why else would I involve myself with your kind?

"I'm Souji of Konoha, by the way... ummm, ok, so what can you tell me about puppetry, based on what you already know?"

I almost fell out of my chair with laughter when I read your response. "Sasori seemed....kind of mean" lmao

Sasori starred at the man, not taking his eyes off of him for even a second as the moment of awkward silence occurred. This sure wasn’t the best way to start off training. Souji probably thought that Sasori was a jerk while Sasori had no opinion on the man, he was just here for one thing and one thing only, training. Perhaps being sarcastic with the man wasn’t the best way to kick off their relationship. Irritated by the moment of silence, Sasori of the Red Sand started tapping his foot indicating that he was becoming impatient. No sooner then he started impatiently tapping his foot, the man began speaking. Sasori tilted his head to the left as the man introduced himself and questioned Sasori on his knowledge in puppetry. Positioning his head back straight, Sasori looked into the eyes of Souji and started to explain what he knew of the art.

Well Souji from Konoha, puppetry is an art where the user, commonly referred to as a puppeteer, controls puppets in his arsenal by using chakra threads to move the joints of the puppet. Chakra threads are strings that are made from concentrated chakra. They allow the user to manipulate weaponry that may be on the puppet and also allow the puppeteer to transfer chakra via the threads to use a puppets techniques. Depending on the skill of the puppeteer, fewer threads of chakra may be used to control a puppet but in most cases for the average user, one can control up to 10 puppets if using all of their fingers.

Some drawbacks of puppetry are that most puppeteers are terrible closed quarter’s fighters. I am however not most puppeteers, but that’s not important right now. Disabling a puppeteer from using their hands is another drawback as the puppeteer will be unable to execute any actions with their puppet if their hands are busy.

"That was well thought out. Let's begin with hands-on experience; that's one of the best ways we can learn. If you have any questions or insights, feel free to say them. I'm here to help!"

Unraveling the scrolls he had on his side, Souji summoned three of Sunagakure's most iconic puppets: Crow, Black Ant, and Salamander, lined up neatly between Sasori and himself.

"The first thing we have to do is to learn to control the puppets. That requires chakra strings, yes? I want you to channel chakra to the tips of your fingers and apply shape manipulation to form strings made of chakra that come out from your fingertips. Each finger will release one string for a total of five for each hand, and ten total strings. These strings should then attach to the joints and head of the puppet of your choice. Once you feel like you've gotten an ample grip on the puppet, try moving your fingers around and see how the puppet responds to the chakra... for example, moving your pointer finger should manipulate a limb on the puppet."

"For this exercise, try each of the puppets one at a time. Once you're comfortable with all of them, you might even be able to use two puppets at a time; one controlled by each hand. Go ahead!"

Sasori listened carefully to his sensei’s instructions. It was finally time to start training. He took his eyes off of the shinobi from Konoha and observed each of the three puppets that was summoned by Souji. Crow, Black Ant, and Salamander, three puppets that were known to be used by puppeteers from the village of Suna. Knowing that these puppets were usually only seen used by shinobi from Suna ,Sasori glanced over at Souji and looked at his headband with a confused expression upon his face. Sasori then shrugged his shoulders and decided not to question Souji on how he obtained these puppets, it wasn’t important.

Sasori then held his right hand out in front of his body, with his fingertips pointed towards the puppets. After channeling chakra throughout his fingertips, Sasori began to manipulate the chakra and in return, form strings that he would use to control the puppets. The strings forming from his fingertips then attached to the head and joints of the first puppet, Crow. Sasori took a few moments to see what the puppets reaction would be with the movement of each of his fingers. He moved his index finger around a little bit to take control of the puppets limb. A smirk came over the face of Sasori as he was practicing controlling Crow with the chakra threads. He felt like a kid who had just received a brand new toy. After a few minutes had passed and Sasori had somewhat got the hang of controlling Crow, he detached the strings and moved onto the next puppet, black ant. A weird looking puppet indeed. black ant looked all too familiar to Sasori (wink….wink). Sasori once again took a few minutes to practice manipulating the puppet. He wiggled his finger that was attached to the the bucket shaped head of black ant and then worked his way to limbs. After moving the head and each of the puppets limbs, Sasori began to practice moving the puppet around. Sasori then took control of Salamander by using his chakra threads, once again taking the time to move the head and each of the puppets limbs. After playing around with Salamander, Sasori raised his left hand and formed chakra threads on each of his fingertips, this time commanding the threads on all ten of his fingers to attach to both Salamander and Crow. Due to the amount of time he was given to practice, Sasori couldn’t control both the puppets at the same time as of yet, but with more practice he surely would be able to.

"Hm. Not bad. Seems like you got the hang of it quite quickly. Perhaps as we move along, you'll be able to control multiple puppets at once."

"Let us begin with the actual puppet jutsus. I want you to familiarize yourself with Crow first. Try different gestures to find his weapon compartments across his body; for this exercise, try and shoot smoke bombs and kunais, one barrage after the next."

"For one of the jutsus, you'll jump up and shoot smoke bombs that can reach up to long range from CROW. Take note of that: all weapons-based techniques from puppets have ranges from the puppet themselves."

"Then, fire off a kunai barrage at your target. These can only reach up to short range."

Souji pointed to a set of targets in front of Sasori. Basic target practice!

Lowering his hands back down to his sides, Sasori let off a smirk as his sensei praised him for his efforts in controlling the puppets. Maneuvering the puppets wasn’t as difficult, but here in training, Sasori had all day too practice his control on puppets; he definitely needed to practice some more for when the time came to battle and actually put the puppets to use.

Souji then informed Sasori that he would now be learning puppet jutsus. The first puppet chosen by Souji for Sasori to learn his first set of jutsus with was the puppet, Crow. The sensei from Konoha explained to Sasori that different gestures could be performed to find the weapon compartments located on Crow, and that his next task would be to put these weapons to use.

Seems simple enough

Sasori nodded his head towards Souji and raised his hands once again while concentrating chakra within his fingertips, thus creating strings of chakra on each finger. After the strings of chakra attached to Crow, Sasori directed his attention towards the targets that would be used for the two jutsus. Without hesitation, Sasori bent his knees and pushed off the ground with his feet, jumping high into the air (Yume style lol) while taking Crow with him. Once at the height of his jump, Sasori performs a few gestures with his middle finger, manipulating the puppet Crow to unleash several smoke bombs from its mouth that pour down onto the ground below, near the selected targets. The surrounding area then became enveloped in smoke due to the bombs. As Sasori begins to plummet from his jump, he maneuvers Crow a little closer to where the targets was last seen. Sasori then moves his ring finger which opens a compartment on Crow’s chest, revealing multiple kunais that are then released in a barrage at the target.

No soon after the target is destroyed by the multiple kunais, Sasori comes landing on the ground with his chakra threads still attached to Crow. Sasori then looks towards Souji and awaits further instructions.

The clone, under the cover of the smoke, gets barraged by the kunais and poofs. When it clears, nothing is left but a bunch of weapons.

"Next, you'll use Crow as a close-range combatant. On my new clone, make Crow rotate, turning him into something like a spinning top. While he's spinning, you can hit my clone. Afterward, to finish off my clone, detach Crow's head by manipulating it with one of your fingers, and activate the blade mechanism in his mouth. That blade can then be flung with Crow's head towards a close-range opponent, stabbing them."

Souji makes a second Shadow Clone.

With his chakra threads still attached to Crow, Sasori lays his emotionless eyes upon a clone of Souji. Clones made for perfect target practice, but Sasori would prefer to practice on actual living beings but seeming that the only living creature here was his sensei, he would settle for clones. While in control of the Crow puppet, Sasori maneuvered it closer to a clone of Souji. Once in front of the clone, Sasori makes a few gestures with his fingers on his right hand which manipulates the Crow puppet to start rapidly spinning. The clone is then struck by Crow’s rotational force, knocking it back a few meters. Continuing with his onslaught, Sasori wiggles the pinky finger of his left hand, which detaches the head of Crow. Almost simultaneously, Sasori brings his thumb inward, which manipulates the Crow puppet’s head to fling in a nodding gesture while ejecting a spike from out of its mouth aimed at the clone.

In the corner of his eye, Sasori spotted a red-haired figured in the distance. He shrugged and brought his attention back to his sensei>.>

Souji makes a third Shadow Clone. Said clone brandishes a set of explosive-tagged kunai.

"Now, extend Crow's arm. You should be able to feel four segments on his limbs; use your chakra strings to detach those segments and open outward, like how an umbrella opens. By channeling your chakra into your puppet's arm from your connection with him, you can create a round chakra shield, connected at the segments, that can protect you from attacks up to C-rank. Any puppet can do this."

"My clone will throw these kunais at you. Use that shield to defend yourself!"

The clone throws the weapons he was holding at Sasori.

"Afterwards, open Crow's mouth and fire off senbon using its launcher. Quite simple, and the senbon are poisonous, so be aware of that so you don't hit yourself. You can maintain the shower of senbon for as long as you focus chakra through it."

After the previous targets were obliterated from Sasori’s last attack with Crow, Souji wasted no time in creating another one. Souji then carefully explained what Sasori would be doing next. He was expected to use a puppet to make a shield to defend from an incoming attack. Without any heads up given, Soujis clone suddenly launches its weapons in Sasoris direction. With his chakra threads already attached to the puppet Crow, Sasori performed some gestures with his index fingers that caused Crows arms to extend. With a few wiggles of his fingers, the segments being manipulated on Crows body by Sasori detached and opened outwards. Sasori channeled his chakra through the threads and into the puppets arms which resulted in the creation of a round chakra shield that would protect Sasori from the incoming kunais. Immediately after the kunais were blocked, Souji explained the next technique to Sasori. Understanding what needed to be done next, Sasori wiggled his right middle finger which opened the mouth of Crow. With another gesture of the finger, Crowd would fire off a barrage of poisonous senbons from the launcher in its mouth. The clone would end up being hit just as it was attempting to grab some more kunai.

The red-headed figure was still slowly approaching the two, who was he?

Before Souji could speak and continue with the next set of techniques, Sasori of the Red Sand appeared and looked at him.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, voice cold but relatively intimidating.

"... wait, you're Sasori too? What the heck?" Souji replied, confused.

"Leave."

Without another word, Souji left rather abruptly.

Sasori turned to face Sasori. This was some seriously meta shit, yo.

"I saw you using those puppets. Now, I'll make sure you perfect them."

"Manipulate Crow to find his smoke ball cartridges; in particular, the ones that are imbued with poison. By releasing this poisonous smoke balls, you can obscure an opponent's vision and slowly poison them, allowing it to take effect."

After Sasori completed the first technique for practice, Sasori-sensei pointed to Black Ant.

"Let's try a technique where you use two puppets. Form your chakra strings to take control of Black Ant, and open up their weapon cases to shoot explosive bombs at your targets. These bombs have C-rank strength."

"Go ahead and hit those targets over there. Note that the bombs are released short range from your puppets."

A row of targets were laid out in a straight line. Each target looked like a shinobi from a different village.

Sasori stood by speechless as……the Sasori imposter interrupted his training session. This was definitely the most confusing situation ever. Was he placed under a genjutsu, was he using a trick to look like Sasori, or did he travel from the future like the reverse-flash? Whatever the case may be, this was not your average training session . Sasori glanced over at Souji as he walked away so calmly after being dismissed by the other Sasori

As sensei Sasori began to explain the next technique, trainee Sasori gave him an “are you serious?” look. Surely he didn’t expect the training to just continue on like everything was normal here. A sigh escaped through the mouth of trainee Sasori. He decided to not ask any questions and continue on with the training.

With all of his strings connected to the Crow puppet, Sasori made some gestures with his fingers to activate Crow’s smoke ball cartridges. With a wiggle of his right pinky finger, Sasori manipulated Crow to open its mouth wide and shoot off several of the smoke bombs towards an area that was safe from the red-headed duo. When the bombs made contact with the ground, they exploded, causing a poisonous gas to envelop the area. Anyone unfortunate soul who was caught up in it was be blind and poisoned.

Sasori then moved his left hand, detaching any threads that were recently attached to Crow and had them latch onto the Ant puppet. Controlling two puppets at once was still very new to Sasori, so hopefully performing this next technique would not be a problem. Before his attempt, Sasori made some gestures with his left fingers to get the use of the ant puppet. Once comfortable enough, Sasori performed gestures with fingers on both of his hands which activated both of the puppets weapon cases and launched several explosive bombs at the nearby targets. A sadistic smile came over the face as Sasori as he watched the targets that resembled shinobi from different villages be destroyed.

Sasori-sensei didn't seem to be fazed by the fact he was teaching himself. In fact, it seemed quite normal. As expected, Sasori-student was proficient. Sensei expected no less.

"Crow will reveal blades all over its body; find the mechanisms that activate them. Then, you will 'throw' Crow at a target, manipulating your strings to make him spin, turning him into a spinning, bladed top of sorts. It's much like a toy... except far more lethal."

Description: Sasori whilst in his Hiruko puppet will launch his torpedo-shaped left arm towards the enemy target. The arm rotates at high speed, launching the wooden cylinders attached to it. The cylinders then open releasing a large amount of senbon from each one, creating a quick rain of poisoned needles in all directions.
Note: Can only be used by Sasori whilst in Hiruko puppet.

"Here, you'll open Crow's arms and shoot a special form of kunai that home in to a target, following them and exploding on impact. Quite useful for creating misdirection and distractions from a more powerful jutsu."

Sasori-student listened closely to Sasori-sensei as he went on to explain the next puppetry technique. With his right hand already having strings of chakra attached to the crow puppet, Sasori began to make a few gestures with his right thumb and index finger, revealing several blades from the limbs of the puppet. Sasori then proceeds to make a few more simple gestures with his fingers, launching crow into the air and manipulating the strings attached to the puppet to enter into a rapid spinning rotation.

Lethal toys, I like this….Sasori-sensei.

After performing the last technique, Sasori pulled Crow back towards him. He moved his right index and middle finger which in-turn opened Crow’s four arms. With another gesture of his right pinky and thumb, Crow would fire off four kunai. The kunai would home in on……..the random target that sasori-sensei didn’t point out and explode once they made impact.
