Originally invented by Monzaemon Chikamatsu for entertainment purposes, he later converter the art into an unique form of combat. This combat style is called Puppet Techniques, where a user controls a puppet with chakra threads with one thread (one per finger). More skilled users (such as Chiyo and Sasori) can control puppets with one thread and with modification to oneself (such as Sasori), up to a a hundred can be controlled.

Strengths: The technique is long-range; innovative methods that can bypass such weaknesses of close combat, such as Hiruko and Sasori puppets. Kankuro shown to act quite deceptively, switching places with his puppets using the Body Replacement Technique, also altering their appearances to resemble his, to escape close combat when an opponent gets too close, while at the same time putting his puppets in range of the enemy, allowing Kankurō to catch his foes off guard and kill them.

Weakness: If the joints are infiltrated, than the puppet becomes immobile. The user is wide open if the opponent bypass the puppet. Puppeteers are weak since they use their hands to manipulate the puppets and If the opponent enters close combat, than their hands become disabled and the technique is neutralized.

I summarized most of what I know by looking at Narutopedia. Could not explain properly in my words and I am busy to remember, so I took a peek. Apologies. @Underline. I copied. I had to add Kankuro because I left him out of the list.

Don't worry about needing to check the wiki in order to get your information. Just note that there are a lot of things which can't just be taken from the wiki so you'll need to improvise a lot.

Short, but pretty much spot on. Puppets were indeed created my Monzaemon Chikamatsu who's most famous is probably the Ten Puppet Collection of Chikamatsu which is now in the hands of Chiyo, and also said to be powerful enough to take down an entire castle. But I digress and I'll get back to the topic.

Strengths I felt you could improvise a little more on that. Our techniques are long range which means that you're going to try to keep them at bay with other various techniques in order to make the most of it. Typically, because of this puppeteers will have the advantage over those who like to use Genjutsu because of the range limitation, as well as other such techniques like Taijutsu users, other such weapons and so forth. Really everything will have a weakness, but a good person will be able to overcome the weakness.

Though that is a viable strategy, you want to be very careful when using it. Remember that we only get one substitution per match, so it's not something you want to be using on a whim, you'll want to have a nice strategy in place to use with the technique.

Right, anything which can really ruin the joints of a puppet can constitute as a weakness. Things like Sand, Aburame, and a few others will be weak as they can really screw around with the insides and make them not working, so they're things to look out for.

But that's the basis of the art. We'll move onto the next part.

So puppeteers in general have to follow a few rules in order to make the most use of our abilities, and also count as a couple minor restrictions as well. I'd like for you to find them and explain them to me in your own words. You can find the most important ones in the Puppetry and Sasori guidelines. I only want the ones relevant to puppeteers in general, not those which pertain to Sasori.

Do I really have to write out all that? Not to seem rude, the one thing I need to know: Puppeteers utilize only puppets in combat. Any further "distractions" (such as Ninjutsu and Elemental Ninjutsu) serves as no purpose - not necessarily. However, Puppeteers have found use to utilize Ninjutsu and Elemental Ninjutsu by incorporating them (through seals or scrolls) into the puppet to further add to their puppet arsenal. Sorry for being difficult. Not trying to make this go faster, but must of it is common sense.

I know the rules. Most of the rules are restricted to limit puppets on the battlefield to prevent confusion or overwhelming advantage. If I forget, I can refer back to them. However, one or two rule catches my eye:

Sasori Bio
Only 3 puppet summons may be active at any time. (For example, you can have the 100 puppets that sasori summoned [as this classes as one summon] and 2 more puppet summons.)

Only a maximum of 2 puppets summons may be performed per turn.
Only 3 puppets can be used on the battle and only a maximum of 2 puppets can be used? Can you explain?

I was only asking for the visible rules of puppetry, not a huge deal or anything. I know you want to get this done just like everyone else wants to rush their training, but I train this way so I know you have a firm understanding on everything and how to use it. Because really, if you don't know how to use it properly it's on my head for not teaching you properly. This isn't exactly something where you can go over the techniques by rank and you tell me how they're performed, I need to know that you understand how it all works. I do this with everyone I train, and it might take longer but really, it's necessary for this art.

But anyway, I think you have a small misconception with this. As puppeteers, we don't usually condone ourselves to using ninjutsu in battle, aside from what's installed in our puppets. But in our RP it's a little different, and we're allowed to do such things. Our style of puppetry is the marionette, and as such we can perform hand seals without really disrupting the puppets themselves. Think of it like a rope, when it's not stretched out as far as it can go, you can move the base of it around without moving the other end of the rope. It's the same principle here; by feeding more chakra to make the threads longer, you can create the same sort of effect with the puppet.

I know you didn't really get all the rules I asked for, but I digress, I'm sure you understand them, so I'll only go over the two which you had trouble with. :)

Only 3 puppet summons may be active at any time. (For example, you can have the 100 puppets that sasori summoned [as this classes as one summon] and 2 more puppet summons.)
This basically refers to puppet summons and that you can only have three on the field at one time. It's generally more as a control issue, most puppeteers can't control more than that at a time because it's hard to do so. Puppet Summons refer to the technique in which puppets are held, and need to be summoned. As such, puppets like Sasori's Parents count as one puppet summon, despite being able to summon the two seperately if you want to.

Only a maximum of 2 puppets summons may be performed per turn.
It's the same principle really, except you have a limit as to how many summons you can perform per turn. I don't personally consider this as a rule, but more of a guideline for the technique. The technique which creates the chakra threads must be used when you attach them to a puppet, so by performing two puppet summons, you have another move to attach threads to them and effectively control them. If you were to summon three puppets in a single turn, you wouldn't have another move in order to control the puppets, and you'd basically be a sitting duck.

With that out of the way, we'll move on if you understand everything so far.

So... If I summon a puppet or more than one, that puppet(s) can be on the field without using it as a 3 move slot throughout the whole battle?

Think of the puppet summons like a regular summoning technique: once the doll has been brought out into the field, you don't need to post the technique for it again. But for bringing it out the first time, it will count towards your three moves per turn. Additionally, this doesn't apply to if you bring it out without summoning it through a scroll. Kankuro did this in Part I, where he would hold Crow and Black Ant on his back wrapped in sheets. If you decide to summon puppets this way, it's similar to drawing a kunai since puppets are still considered ninja tools, but of course it would still count towards the number of puppet summons you can perform per turn.

So yeah, that's that on summoning puppets, we'll move on.

(Kugutsu No Jutsu) - Puppetry Technique
Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defense/Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10(-4 each turn its used after wards)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes threads of chakra that are used to control puppets.
Of course, everyone should know this technique. This technique is needed to create threads and attach them to puppets so that we can control them. This is the reason the rule about only being able to summon two puppets per turn is in effect, so we have one more spot for this technique to control them. Performing it is simple, you're excreting chakra from your fingertips in a thin strand and creating a marionette connection with your dolls, and controlling them. While this is a rudimentary technique in our arsenal, you don't have to use it purely to control puppets, but you can perform other actions.

While I don't really want you performing the technique since it's not in my style of training to do that, I want you to come up with as many (at least three) alternate uses of this technique, and the situation you would use it that way.

1. After cutting another Puppeteers chakra strings, you can attach your on, removing the puppeteer from hiding or tracking their location.
2. The strings can be attached to a comrade to improve dodging and mobility at your control.
3. Manipulate other objects such as weapons (Kunia knives, shuriken, and blades). If skilled, it can be used to manipulate multiple a single time with chakra strings alone.

More or less, those are all legitimate ways of using the technique in alternate ways. Though there are others which you can use, so I'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention more. For example, you can use the technique when someone's in the middle of performing hand seals, holding their hands together while you perform another action. Though this is pretty much controlling someone else, it's viable and it'd only be for a short time so you can get away with it. Another could be using the chakra threads and attaching them to a nearby tree to create noise, feigning your hiding position. There's endless possibilities as to using the technique, it's just up to you to figure out which one's best for the occasion.

If you understand, we'll move onto the next stage.

(Karasu) Crow
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Crow is the very first puppet we see in the series. It was created by Sasori, but is later used by Kankurou. Crow is a three eyed, four armed humanoid. Crow is one of the more basic puppets, but he is able to detach any of its body parts for deadly attacks, almost every joint having a blade at the end, allowing Crow to shoot his arms towards the opponent, and then have them return back to it. Even his head has a blade that can be extended out from the bottom of its neck when detached. This ability made it and Black Ant a very deadly combination. It also has the ability, like most puppets do, to release poison-tipped darts and smokescreens, which sometimes have poisonous gas mixed with them.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

(Kuroari) Black Ant
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Black Ant, created by Sasori, is a puppet that is often used in conjunction with Crow and, later on, Salamander. It has a bucket-shaped face with two red horns and a total of six arms. It, like Crow, has three eyes. Its body resembles a very large barrel, and it is hollow on the inside, making its main use to be that of trapping, while weapons enter the many slots on its body. At any time, Black Ant can literally open its stomach, and trap an opponent, able to extend the two halves of its stomach so that it stretches out and over the opponent from a very fair distance (approximately mid range) and then retracts the stomach back to its original form, closing it with the opponent inside. Its arm segments contain hidden saw-blades. Like Crow, Black Ant can detach its arms for attacks.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

(Sanshōuo) Salamander
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Salamander is a defensive puppet, though not on the level of defense as that of Hiruko. Salamander, as its name suggests, is built in the form of a large salamander, being one of the largest puppets seen thus far, and though it is not more powerful defensively than Hiruko, it is larger than the other puppet. Salamander is able to rise up a large area on its back to be used as a shield, making a black shield over its head. It, like some other puppets, is hollow, and it can open its back at any time and then rise up its large tail over its head, stretching it out and therefore allowing the puppet user to jump inside of it for protection. Salamander can also spew out fire equal to C rank. Salamander can only be destroyed by one who knows its weak spots, being a weak joint on its side that holds the shield in place and afterwards simply striking it on its back, or by a move of A rank or higher.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

This group of puppets are the basic three everyone get to use so long as they originate from Sunagakure when it comes to custom bios. They're pretty much the main trio which everyone should be able to use because of their uniqueness but extreme ability to work with each other. Crow and Black Ant are generally the main attacking force while Salamander sits back and acts as the defense. I'll clarify this a little more:

Crow is the offense of the three, with the most usages for it's appendages and most of the techniques centralizing around his ability to hold many weapons as well as releasing most of his appendages. One of the biggest traits about Crow is the ability to take a part it's entire body and put it back together again, and is best used with Black Ant's unique shape.

Black Ant is the supplement to Crow's many antics. It's unique shape and build compliments Crow's ability to segregate it's entire body in order to stab people with the tips at the end. The simple idea is for Black Ant to open it's large body up to capture someone, while Crow seperates it's body to reveal the dart-like tips at the end of each part which all stab into the encased target.

Salamander on the other hand is the defense to the trio. While you work your magic with the first two, the third is huge and isn''t exactly the easiest puppet to move around due to it's size. It's got a big shield which will protect you from attacks, a large salamander-like body which you can use to the best of your imagination and a flamethrower built into it's mouth, which is great for keeping people at bay.

It's a bit of information but I hope you understand. The next part is where we go over puppetry freeform. While you've got normal practices like Taijutsu and Kenjutsu, Puppetry can also be achieved in the same way. Because of a puppet's different structure while still generally following the human body without excreting much chakra, you can achieve freeform in the same way, by utilizing these unique traits which puppets have. Multiple limbs to carry more weapons, and so on. Naturally, you can really do anything that the puppet is bound to using in the description in a freeform environment.

So I want you to create your own freeform move using the three aformented puppets. You should use all three of them, and try not to use anything which can be done by using a technique.

I reach and grab the 3 scrolls sitting on the scroll holder on my back. Retracting 2 of the scrolls simultaneously out in front of myself (laying one to the left and the other to the right, inches apart, and leaving space in the middle) on the ground, unraveling them and then the third (laid across the middle) which I unravel, and afterward performing the "Tiger" hand-seal, summoning 3 puppets from the scroll to my front. Crow, Black Ant, and Salamander - each distinctively different in usage. I throw a smoke bomb to conceal me and the puppets presence.

A dummy was placed mid-range of my position. I was order to destroy this dummy.

In the smoke, I send Black Ant below while Crow, Salamander, and myself was used as a diversion. Using Chakra threads, I control Crow to maneuver through the air towards the dummy's right flank as I dash and position myself and Salamander to the dummy's left flank. Salamander stand his position for defense while Crow was still on a steady assault towards the dummy from the right. I manipulate my chakra threads to pull Black Ant from below under the dummy simultaneously opening its large body to capture it. Thereby, when I capture the dummy, Crow can detach its parts and insert them in Black Ant to merge. This kills the dummy. "Success"

Humm... while your move can be valid, I don't like how you've described it. All you've mentioned is that you split up, using Salamander as a defense and performing a sub-standard capture and impale strategy. I'm not saying it's a bad strategy to go with, but it's just the way you've gone about it. Freeform puppetry is essentially the same as Taijutsu, you need to be accurate and precise with every little thing you do, so mentioning how Black Ant just appears underneath the dummy and catches it. But you should mention how the effect happens. Does the puppet first trip the dummy up in order to slide underneath and catch it, or does the puppet simply move at a fast pace and opens the door while moving towards the dummy?

The reason I ask that you use all three puppets is that they each have their own unique traits to fight with, which will greatly help you develop new strategies and new puppets, instead of using what's conventional and quick. Take Salamander for example, which you didn't really grow into using: it has such an array of different effects which you can take into account when fighting other people. The structure of it's large size means it would naturally weigh a lot, so you can summon the puppet above someone in order to crush them in such a way. Given how it's got a large mouth, you could make the puppet devour their flesh, or whack someone with it's tail. I'm a little disappointed that you would go with what seems to be standard in capturing a puppet.

But anyway, we'll move on.

Puppetry techniques are the bread-and-butter abilities of which puppets can have, and should be used in place of freeform if applicable. Some puppets have specific abilities, whereas some abilities will belong to all puppets. I've split the techniques into three groups.

General techniques:
These are basically techniques which every puppet usually has built into them as functions, and even people can use these techniques if they fit the requirements. As an example, Chiyo's right arm is a puppet arm, which can be used for the Chakra Shield technique. There's a few techniques which encompass these traits, and can be pretty much used by any puppet the user has control of.

Puppet-specific techniques: These can only be used by certain puppets unless for some reason it's specified otherwise in a puppet. For example, I have my own custom doll which has the ability to use Puppet May Rain, which can usually only be used by Crow. It's easy to point these techniques out, as they usually have explanation like "the user manipulates crow to do something".

Multiple puppet techniques: Techniques like these encompass the need to use two or more puppets at the same time. These can either be general techniques which you can use two or more of any puppet, or specifically tailored to certain puppets, mostly they'll be Crow and Black Ant. These usually only have up to three puppets, but might require more if the technique calls for it, and will usually use puppets like Sasori's Parents in order to accomplish the result.

If you understand all that, we'll move on.
