The devil fruit was one of Vegapunks creations, it was said to be a failure, but when that Momonosuke ate it, it actually gave him powers, also we will see more devil fruits later

Edit: Oh, Wasn't that the one Devil Fruit that gave life to the slime monster. But then after Caeser gave him that deadly candy, the slime creature died, so it's Devil Fruit found it's way to the next fruit I guess

I had a feeling you were talking about this. That's the fruit Caesar's pet Smiley ate. After it got blown up and died, the fruit respawned, and that's it there.
