Well personally I don't believe there is a humane way to end a life, anyway you approach it the outcome is the same. Putting a bullet in someone's heart is a quick and easy way to end a life. They make it difficult to make more money.
I don't think public executions or any of that is needed going backwards isn't good. But we can also learn from those times, less crimes were committed because of the harsh punishments. It's was just the lazy system that led to innocent deaths like you said, but the system is still lazy if not even more since they actually make money off of sending people to jail.
Well humane as in they don't suffer while dying.
In death, people still respect the bodies. Just shooting them down is not very respectful. I know I for one wouldn't want to be shot in the head or have my body mutilated.
Some see it as simple ethics, others have religious reasons. When in mass the casket is usually open, for the family to see the bullet hole in their loved one's head would only add to the tragedy of their demise and unfortunate actions.
