More evidence that the PlayStation 4 is an absolute beast

The current console war will be a long and bloody one. Sony has taken a clear early lead, having sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles in 2013 compared to 3 million Xbox One units sold, and some believe that the PS4′s beastly specs will keep it in the lead for the during of this console generation. For gamers looking for raw power, it appears as though the PS4 indeed delivers — and now new comments from another satisfied game developer provide more evidence that Sony’s new console is indeed a powerhouse.

Video game blog GamingBolt recently touched base with Philippe Morin, co-founder of game developer Red Barrels, to discuss the group’s efforts to port its 2013 PC hit “Outlast” to the PlayStation 4. The popular title won critical acclaim and was called one of the scariest PC games of the year last year. It was also fairly resource intensive, and it ran on PCs at 60 frames per second.

According to Morin, the PlayStation 4 version of Outlast will run at 60 fps just like its PC predecessor, and it will be a full HD game as well.

“We didn’t run into any issues as far as we’re concerned, both versions look the same.” Morin said when asked if his team had any problems porting the game to the PS4.

The whole basis of your post of the PS4 is a beast because it will get a port of a game at 1080P at 60 fps. To further backup your statement you stated the PC version was 60 fps at full hd as well. Only thing is, the ps4 isn't remotely in the same league as a PC let alone it's games aren't even comparable in graphical capabilities. One console offers up to 2K resolutions with full AA and ultra presets while the other is still at 1080P, using a low/mid tier gpu, and a low end AMD 8 core processor, along with 8GB of shared DDR5 ram.

Is the PS4 better than the xbox one? Absolutely.
Can any multi platform game on any gaming console be compared to a PC port? No it cannot.

I don't like this quote. It's like saying all PC's run it at the same FPS which can't be true, the more powerful the PC, the more fps you achieve.

The PS4 having an ATI 7850 gpu, it out matches the games specifications. This is why it's 60fps in case anyone is wondering. The PS4 seems to be trying to take things slow and let devs get more used to coding specifically for it's hardware by porting games in the mean time. Tho it's a port from PC so you can expect a pretty quality port. I don't see why you say the PS4 solo's tho. I mean it's a decent system but the developer's know well that it has it's limits compared to high end gaming platforms.



In case you're not aware, putting "PS4solo's" at the end of a thread which shows PS4 running a PC game at max settings or max/optimized to make up for the CPU, kinda implies you're making this a PS4 vs PC thread. Just saying. So I'll have to respond to that.

As far as we’re concerned, both versions look the same.

If it's already being pushed to it's limits or near it's limits to even having to use the cores it uses for the OS, then it's not going to last long compared to PC gaming. PC gaming will continue to advance. The PS4 is pretty close to PC gaming of 2013 (PC games without mods). That says a bit since we just started 2014. So even tho it's close to a PC of 2013, it's going to be left behind. Just like the PS3 when it came out. When it get's a crysis 3 port at max settings without having to optimize it by lowering some hidden details (Like how some games will only have a high polygon count/texture of a tree in front of you, but on the backside of the tree it looks shitty) then I'll have a bit more respect for it. Since crysis 3 killed the PS3's hardware and was a bit difficult on mid range PC's to run at max settings. High end gaming PC's could run it at max settings and then graphic mod it to look even better (I did it, omg it was amazing). However making a thread saying that running a PC game allows it to solo what PC can do? Please, Outlast's engine isn't even PC's final form.

In terms of the standard game, not modded, they're pretty close for now. Which is a decent compliment as the previous gen compared to PC at end gen, there was a huge gap. That will happen again, it's basically a tradition. But for the time being the PS4 is close which makes it a decent choice for gaming on for probably about two more years.

It's fine to have something you're proud of, just that putting "solo" at the end the thing you're proud of makes it sound as if you're saying it beats everything.

Well, honestly, the PS4 has outdone Sony this year. Including the new Playstation Now that could potentially allow it to play both PS1 and PS2 games too. Can't say I was ever an xBox fan, but people really need to stop the hate. Just buy what you want.
