SO my PS3 has a broken HDMI port and I bought a 60GB old machine because its backwards compatible, can I put my 340BG hard drive from my slim in it and if I do will it no longer be compatible with PS2 games? Please use small words I am about as techy as cheese

Yes, you can use your Slim HDD on your 60GB, and no it will not lose the backwards compatibility.

However, the PS3 will format the HDD completely if you swap it in, so you'll lose everything that was on there. Use the composite (Red/Yellow/White) A/V cables to connect your Slim to your TV and be sure to back up save data to a USB stick, etc, or just do a complete system backup (you'll probably need an external HDD) and restore it on the 60GB.

I'm pretty sure you can do that, but you gotta remove the 60gb HDD and change it for the other one.

Thanks. The only thing is, when I back up save data, i did this before when I needed to reformat, when i try to use the data it tells me that I am not allowed.

It's because the saves are "registered" to another user profile (your old one).

You'll have to do a complete system backup/restore to migrate your entire profile over to the new system so you can still use them.
