The "real Sasuke" is a kind-hearted person. This is my thought.
Sasuke had been driven by extreme hatred caused by non other than Itachi. Itachi also had tortured him so much. He casted Tsukuyomi on Sasuke to relive the day of the massacre for 24 hours!
And Sasuke never really wanted to kill anyone except Itachi and Danzo. He didn't kill Deidara, Deidara commited suicide. And it was Deidara that wanted to fight him at the first place.
Before "killing" Itachi, he never killed anybody. Orochimaru said that he was "soft" in a scene where he had defeated some hundreds of shinobis but didn't kill them.
He even told Suigetsu to not kill those curse mark people in that Oro's hideout. That shows that he was actually a kind-hearted person.
We knew that Sasuke is the reincarnation of Indra. So I think that it's Indra that caused Sasuke to turn into an evil.
It's confirmed that Indra was already present in Sasuke during the Kage Summit. That's the place where Sasuke had his first kills ever, the Samurais. And at that moment, Karin realized that Sasuke's chakra is different.
So my thought is that "pure Sasuke" is a good boy. It was Indra that turned him evil. Indra might started to live in his body during the Kage Summit, but it might be way before that, maybe after Sasuke knew the truth about Itachi, and when he decided to crush Konoha.
Indra might have already been present in Sasuke at that moment. But I kinda doubt it though, because the only time Sasuke started to show his evil was during the Kage Summit. What could we expect from him anyway after all he went through, left Konoha to train and get stronger to kill Itachi only to find out that Itachi was good and Itachi himself had gone through a miserable life? It's not that surprising to see Sasuke making that decision.
But anyway, if Indra was not present when Sasuke decided to destroy Konoha, you may say that Sasuke really was evil even without Indra. But Sasuke never get the chance of destroying Konoha, so who knows that if he actually did reach in front of Konoha, he would cancel his plan, because deep in his heart, he was still a kind person, that will never kill anyone without reason.
I think that Kishi deliberately "protects" Sasuke from doing something evil by himself so that he would stay as someone clean, so that it is kinda justified for him to be one of the heroes for the shinobi world fighting Madara.
