give me that manga chapter that says the part about his brother dying in battle i don't think ive read that, and what do we know about his brother and his abilities? nothing atleast not that i can think of. them being brothers you don't think there abilities were alike or maybe they sounded the same?

as for the hair, when he met itachi he had long hair..so that's a mystery why he's cutting it
most important point still is, tobi controlled kyuubi, only madara and 1st were able to do so.

Madara's brother definatly isn't tobi... in the manga and anime when madara is talking to sasuke, it clearly shows a flashback of the corpse in the casket. I think tobi is madara. The reason madara's face hasn't been shown is the same reason kakashi's hasn't, it makes reaers curious and want to keep reading.It's prob also to make people question it like you are and make things interesting

I think mandara is tobi but the only proof I have against that theory is that when deidara killed himself tobi was somehow caught on the explosion and died and then after that a dude with tobi's mask just starts going after sasuke and naruto and telling Pain to do stuff so I'm not sure but it seems like mandara did a jutsu to copy Tobi's look and clothes
