He did not kill itachi because he wanted Itachi to fight sasuke so that Sasuke can obtain the MS and then the EMS so he can further progress his eye's so then he would be able to unlock the rinnegan and use the Rinne Tensei jutsu on madara instead of himself.

Obito didn't fear itachi, Actually itachi feared him.

Itachi planted that amaterasu as a "fail safe" and it also failed.

Itachi has no counters for Kamui.

Since when does it matter if Konoha knows it's Obito and not Madara. They went to war against "madara" and couldn't touch him. That secret didn't keep him safe. The only one who didn't attack obito because they thought he was madara was itachi.

Obito clearly said that If itachi knew his secret, Then itachi would of made a better trap more suiting for kamui and Obito would of been at risk of death but Itachi didn't know anything about obito thus the "fail safe" attempt.

In fact Obito needed Itachi alive for his own purposes(Sasuke to get MS and later get EMS from Itachi's eyes). But Itachi had no reason to keep someone as dangerous as Obito who endangers the future of the world alive. Only reason is that he thought himself incapable to defeat Obito what he even smh said during his fight against Sasuke
