I feel as though this is a very common misconception, that IT requires Tsuk just because they share the same name. However, Manga Evidence proves otherwise.

As seen here, when Madara is explaining the Infinite Tsukuyomi, he keeps stating that this is the genjutsu that will be used for the plan. If you look closely, this Genjutsu is not Tsukuyomi, as Madara never had his MS activated when the genjutsu was cast, meaning this was a simple 3 tomoe genjutsu that is required for IT and not Tsuk itself.

Further evidence comes from the fact that after Madara died, Obito had no intention of reviving Madara, and was to set out to complete the plan himself. However, even if Madara did have Tsukuyomi, how was Obito going to complete the plan himself? It's absurd to suggest he has Tsukuyomi in his only MS, and would be complete speculation to say so. The simplest answer is that Obito could complete IT because it doesn't require Tsukuyomi itself; only a 3 tomoe genjutsu.

It could have been tsukuyomi because obito himself uses an MS technique (kamui) without the mangyekou. though you could be right.hmm

Wow. I never thought about that. And when you really think about it ''Tsukuyomi'' means Moon God. Not a bad theory.
