i'd rank them as
1. konoha
2. kumo
3. suna
4. iwa
5. kiri

sand village is clearly the weakest village. In the past and presently. Gaara temari kankoro are their three strongest ninja. That's not that impressive
the past strongest sand are gaara sasori and third kazekage. which beats the likes of kiri which has 2nd mizukage kisame and mei

Sand village isn't that strong, A and Bee would demolish the entire village themselves
chiyo, sasori, gaara, 4th and third kazekages, and temari arent notable?

Storm release is a combination of lightning and water. Lightning is weak against wind while water is neutral against it so storm release will be nullified by a wind attack.

On the other hand, how does Darui counter kiri kiri mae, with a much higher area of effect than any of Darui's techniques?

kkg are completely unpredictable in how they react to other elements. ice is a combination of wind and water yet electricity wrecks it. imho, until she demonstrates a good defensive move, laser circus would wreck her, it's extremely fast, and guided. darui can pressure her hard enough to not allow her a chance to use her best moves.

Okay a difference in opinions I guess. Do you recall what happened when Sasuke fought Yamato and co? His lightning nullified wood release which is a combination of earth and water. As we all know, earth is weak against lightning while water is neutral. This means that wood is weak against lightning thus explaining why Yamato's wood release was rendered useless by Sasuke's chidori nagashi.

I understand that, but ice is strong against fire and weak vs lightning, It's kinda hard to predict whether she'll nullify it, storm release is a pretty OP kkg in my book, it's like a kamehameha that's guided, it could easily give multiple shinobi trouble all by itself.

I honestly see nothing in her repertoire that can defend against this.

I don't think that elements that are a combination of two or more basic elements follow any set rule for which is stronger. Let us not forget that an attack of a high enough level can defeat an attack of its opposing element, such as a Madara fire release against a kirigakure jounin's single water wall.

As for the thread theme, I disagree that Sunagakure is the second strongest in history. Let us examine their leaders first. Sunagakure is said to have a cursed leadership, seeing as most of the kazekage have been assassinated. Also, sunagakure is the only village shown to whose daimyo outsourced missions to foreign villages.
Next, let us look at the mentioned shinobi. I would like to separate them based on ability, meaning that Chiyo, Sasori, and Kankuro are the puppeteers, Temari is a combination of ninjutsu and weapons, and the third, fourth, and fifth (Gaara) kazekage are the kekkei genkai users. As I previously stated, the kazekage are as a whole, weaker in comparison to other kage. Sunagakure's jinchuuriki and leader also happen to be the same person, significantly reducing the village's battle with one death. Temari is a long distance fighter, which means that she can be bested by either an even more powerful long range fighter. Or Nara Shikamaru on a good day. The puppet users have all demonstrated their abilities, and their strength lies in the power of their puppet. Personally, I find them to be weak overall, based on their fights thus far.

I think that Sunagakure is in fact the weakest village in the ninja history.

Where did you get the fact that ice is strong against fire but weak against lightning? I don't recall ever reading about that.
Anyway I realize Darui has nice AoE that can trouble multiple shinobi but the same goes for Temari.

I know that an attack from a much higher level shinobi will defeat an attack from a much lower shinobi even if the lower level ninja has the elemental advantage. However, Temari and Darui are on the same level when it comes to mastery of their respective element. Comparing Madara's katon to the fodder's suiton is invalid in this case unless you can prove to me that Darui is to Temari what Madara is to a regular fodder suiton user.

Just because a village gets its kages assassinated doesn't make them weak. If someone back stabs you, it doesn't mean you were too weak to defend against the aggressor. You are going to have to prove to me that the Kazekages are weaker compared to other kage in their generation. Explain how Gaara is weaker than Mei or Tsunade.

Puppet users aren't weak at all. They can save themselves from attacks because the puppets can act as decoys. Puppet users also utilize poisonous attacks and one scratch from those can finish you off. As for Temari, she isn't losing to Shikamaru. Just read the scans above, I have no need to explain. Seriously people need to start learning how to read the manga and interpret it.

I read the manga and interpret it fairly well. I was using the Madara/kirigakure comparison to simply demonstrate that elemental weaknesses are not much of a weakness sometimes. Now, as for Temari and Darui, I believe that Darui's storm release is better than Temari's wind release. He Temari's attack can be large scale or somewhat precise, but Darui's is not only a faster technique, but it is also more remotely controllable. In a direct battle, I think that Darui could defeat Temari, not based only on his elemental techniques, but displayed methods as a shinobi on a whole. The Shikamaru comment was intended to be a joke, seeing as their entire professional relationship began as a result of him outsmarting her.

There is no need for me to compare kage of the same generation, as we are talking about the history of the villages. I can name kage in history that can defeat Gaara. One would be the kage that he could not defeat without his father's gold dust, other support fighters, and the kage's willingness to help in the beginning, the second mizukage.

The puppet users are theoretically only as strong as their puppets. Yes, puppets can be used in all of the ways that you stated. But at the same time, if those poisonous attacks were dodged or blocked, they are rendered useless. If you are inclined to create a puppet user VS thread, this would be better discussed there.

True Darui does have more control and precision but that wouldn't really matter if it can be nullified. Explain what you meant by him winning due to being a better shinobi. In that case, Itachi beats Hashirama because he is a better shinobi lol. I'm just curious why people over hype storm release and think it is some god tier technique. What feats has it shown us that can be used to conclude that it will over power a high level wind user's fuuton even though it is up against an elemental disadvantage? How is Darui's technique faster when Temari doesn't even need hand seals to execute her's?

The same goes for any other jutsu or weapon. Just because puppet attacks can be dodged, it doesn't mean the puppet user is weak. Itachi's katon was dodged by Sakura, does that mean Itachi's katon is weak?

  1. Konohagakure
  2. Kumogakure
  3. Iwagakure
  4. Sunagakure
  5. Kirigakure
Strength isn't just determined by numbers, quality is far more important.
In an all out war, Sunagakure would inevitably lose to all but Kirigakure.

considering even the manga said they divided the tailed beast to balance the power.. than wouldn't it be the leaf number 1 for having nine tails and than would automatically put cloud village in number 2 considering there the only other village left with a tailed beast not to mention a perfectly controlled one
