It wasn't the home planet. They were gonna go to the home planet at the end of the movie

It wasn't the actual planet, some kind of moon they abandoned

it seems to me that the planet is a lab or storage facility for biological weapons, and some of them broke free and killed the engineers that are found dead in the film.

So the humans were a failed experiment, the alien that was revived went to destroy the humans because they are a threat now? I bet they didn't think humans would be so advance later on asking their own creators "where are you from" lmao no wonder that alien was so pissed.

It wasn't the planet. It also wasn't the moon that was explored in the first Alien. That moon was LV-426 in Alien, while in Prometheus it was LV-223, however in the scene where they show the moon LV-223 on the hologram, LV-426 can also be seen. So by that logic, its safe to assume that where Prometheus took place was on a moon or some rock caught in the planet's gravitational pull.
