Finally after years since Prometheus released I had so many questions in regards to its origin and connection to the alien franchise and now it'll be answered in the direct sequel to Prometheus.
The sequel releases August 2017.
Michael fassbender and Noomi rapace reprise their roles as David and Elizabeth
It also stars Danny Mcbride as the new ships pilot.
Here's the synopsis:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers a dark world whose sole inhabitant is David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
There's some images from the set which I'm to lazy to copy and paste but you can check it out just google the film's title:

There's one image from the set I'll link that one which seems to show those "gods" from Prometheus dying or some sort of thing going on.
