The next morning, the family excluding Shindo and Aizu—who are still away with Kakashi—eats breakfast in the dining room. After their meal, Itachi pulls Naruto to the side.
Itachi: Dad, I have something to ask you.
Naruto: Yeah? What is it?
Itachi: In private...
Itachi leads Naruto to the roof of the mansion. From the roof, the entire village is visible. Itachi glares towards the rising sun with a deep, serious expression on his face.
Naruto: (Oh, man. That look in his eyes...I think I know what he's gonna ask...) So, what's up Itachi?
Itachi: I think it's time for you to tell me about my real parents..
Naruto: Okay. You're 16, now. You deserve to know the truth......It was 16 years and some months ago, just 5 days after Minato was born. It was storming that night, which is unusual for the Hidden Leaf Village. Someone knocked on the door, but when I opened it, no one was there. I looked down and there you were, in a basket. There was a note tucked in your blanket, it read: "Greetings Naruto. I know we've never been on the same side, but I beg of you to please take care of my son. You must see the resemblance, so you know who his father is...I will not allow Sasuke to raise him in darkness. I've once sensed your chakra, you are pure and noble. Exactly how I want my son to be when he grows up. Sasuke named him after his beloved brother, Itachi. Though, I wish for his last name to be "Uzumaki". I do not want to be so attached to his Uchiha side, a mistake that Sasuke made. Please hold him dear to your heart and cherish him as you would if he were your flesh and blood. Thank you. -Karin Uzumaki"...Hinata and I weren't ready for another child, being that Minato was just born and all. But, we knew that you were special. Even for a baby, you had an intelligent look in your eyes. We took you in, loved you, and the rest is history.
A tear streams down Itachi's cheek.
Itachi: Karin and Sasuke...
Naruto: Yeah. Those are your biological parents.
Itachi: So, my father is evil huh?...
Naruto looks down, feeling guilty for not being able to save Sasuke.
Naruto: Yeah, he's been stuck in the darkness since he was about your age. I've tried my absolute hardest to bring him back to the light, but I was much too late. That's the reason I chose not to become Hokage. I couldn't even rescue my best friend...
Itachi: Then, I do not accept him as my father. You are my dad, my mother was right to leave me with you. Thank you for everything.
The two hug and Itachi heads back inside. Naruto stays on the roof, overlooking the Hidden Leaf Village. He doesn't blame himself anymore, for he has made the world more peaceful and has raised extraordinary shinobi. Saving his best friend was out of his reach, something his old master Jiraiya once warned him of. Naruto couldn't be more proud of his children. An ear-to-ear smile breaks across his face.
When Itachi gets back inside, Minato pulls him to the side and invites him to the journey he and Keiko are about to go on. Itachi accepts without hesitation, wanting to avenge his mother.
Itachi: Alright, I've gotta go pack.
Minato: No time for that. Lord Konohamaru is about to send dad, Kakashi, and others to assist those two guys, Jugo and Suigetsu. Plus, I've got you covered. I packed more than enough necessities.
Itachi: Okay, let me at least change into my more suitable clothes. I don't want to get vengeance in my pajamas.
Minato: Yeah, yeah. That would be weird. Just hurry up, slow-poke.
Itachi puts on his favorite outfit and two tells their parents "bye". They will miss Naruto and Hinata, but they've gotta do what they feel must be done. Then, the brothers goes to meet Keiko at the gate. On the way there, a light flashes in front of them.
Minato: What the-
When the light fades, Tigris stands there. Her cheeks are bloated, she carries something in her mouth.
Itachi: Tigris? Where's-
Tigris spits out Kakashi, Shindo, and Aizu. They rise to their feet and shakes off Tigris' saliva. Some of it flings on Minato and Itachi.
Minato: Gross!
Itachi: Here, let me help out.
Itachi uses a weakened version of his Water Release: Water Encampment jutsu. Kakashi jumps out of the way, but Shindo and Aizu are soaked.
Minato: My turn!
Minato takes a deep breath and blows some harmless wind on Shindo and Aizu.
Minato: There ya go! All dried up!
Aizu: Very funny, big brothers.
Itachi: What happened, anyway? You guys teleported here?
Kakashi: If you consider instant speed to be teleportation, then yeah. Raikage Darui allowed Mabui to transport us here with her Heavenly Transfer Technique. Unfortunately, we had go inside Tigris's mouth because normal bodies can't handle the speed involved in the transfer. Obviously, Tigris' body is massive and muscular, so she can handle it. Though, she barely fit on the podium. Well, where are you two heading?
Minato: Ummm, we're just gonna go capture some hogs for Ayame. She's running out of pork...so yup, that's what we're doing. Ha..ha.
Minato is a horrible liar, but lucky enough for Minato and Itachi, Kakashi is too exhausted from the trip to notice. But, Shindo can tell that Minato is lying, another ability of his great sensory skills.
Anxious to start the mission, Itachi ends the conversation as quickly as possible.
Itachi: We've got to get going, now. Pork is one of the main ingredients in Ayame's ramen, so we've got to go as soon as possible. See ya.
The two continue to head for the gate.
Minato: Phew, that was too close for comfort. But, we didn't tell dad or uncle Kakashi that Lord Konohamaru request their presence, so that saves us time.
The Uzumaki brothers arrive at the gate. Keiko stands there with her arms crossed.
Keiko: Could you two have been any slower?
Minato holds his arms up, like someone would when they surrender.
Minato: Hey, hey. We ran into your dad, Shindo, and Aizu. Geez.
Keiko: Oh...Well, I'm glad you've convinced Itachi to come along. Are you alright now, Itachi?
Itachi: Yeah, I'm cool. But, I have a feeling that we're going to be away for a longgg time. This is something I must do, though.
Minato: And we've got your back!
Shindo: Aizu and I as well.
Shindo and Aizu followed them to the gate. They hid behind a corner until now.
Minato, Itachi, and Keiko: ?!
Minato: What do you two think you're doing?!
Shindo: Hey, it's not my fault that you didn't remember that I'm a human lie-detector.
Itachi: How long were you standing there?
Aizu: Long enough to hear that you guys seem to be going on a mission.
Minato: Yeah, a mission for shinobi 16 and older!
Shindo: We all know that Aizu and I are more mature than you, big brother.
Keiko: *chuckles* That's true. Come on, Minato, wouldn't you feel better with them with us? If they come along, then you will have no reason to stress out about their safety.
Itachi: Yeah, being that you're a little too protective of us.
Minato: Alright! You guys win!
Shindo: Hmph, this is going to be fun.
Aizu: Thank you, big brother.
Keiko: Good thing I've packed enough for an entire village.
Itachi: Okay, that settles it. Here goes nothing.
They all take a look at the village, knowing that they won't see it again for a while or maybe never see it again at all. Then, they take the first steps of their journey.
