The heroes follow Jugo's trail through the forest, walking casually. Keiko leads the way, being that her sense of smell is very useful in this situation.
Everyone but Shindo are engaged in conversation. There are many ways to describe Shindo, but social isn't one of
them. Though, he usually more talkative than he is at the moment.
Aizu: Big brother, what's on your mind? You've been quiet ever since we defeated those monstrous twins.
Shindo: Oh...so you've noticed?..Well, it's just that the powerful red chakra that cloaked those guys was the same as the chakra that cloaks dad when he enters that weird yellow state.
Itachi: You mean the "Kurama Chakra Mode" or whatever he calls it?
Shindo: Yeah...
Minato: Well, you can't possibly think that dad had any kind of relevance to those freaks, could you? I mean, come on!
Shindo: Of course not. It's just an interesting thought.
Keiko: I'm sure Naruto-san has some reasonable explanation, it's no biggy. We have bigger things to worry about, like how I can smell that Jugo's chakra vanishes in seven miles north of here.
Itachi: I don't like the sound of that, but we'd better check it out.
Keiko: Let's.
The prodigies pick up the pace. Itachi leads this time, being the fastest of the bunch. The forest ends in two miles, the landscape transitions to a grass terrain with scattered, small hills. After four more miles, the heroes approach a massive pile of rubble. They then come to a stop.
Keiko: What is all this?
Shindo: Looks like it used to be a village..
Aizu: Yeah, most likely. That spiral symbol that's on a lot of the rubble must be the villagers' clan crest.
Itachi: Wait...that's the crest that some Hidden Leaf shinobi wears. Dad has that crest designed on his robe.
Minato: It's the crest of the Uzumaki clan...
Keiko: I thought only you, Itachi, and Naruto-san were the only ones with Uzumaki bloodlines. I'd never thought a whole clan of you guys existed before. Makes me wonder if there ever was a whole clan of Hatake's.
Itachi: I found out from dad that I get my Uzumaki blood from my mother, her name was Karin.
Aizu, Minato, Keiko, and Shindo each make a facial expression of grief.
Itachi: Come on, guys. Don't pity me, I'm fine. I've spent enough time in sorrow, now's the time to pursue vengeance. Well, Keiko, that trail ends in one more mile, right?
Keiko: Yup, straight ahead.
They then jump onto the rubble and finish the last mile of Jugo's trail. What they find there, no one expected. In an clear, neat opening of the rubble lies a grave. On the tombstone, there's a name that seemed to be engraved by a
kunai, it reads "Karin Uzumaki". Karin's eyeglasses are placed in front of the tombstone, dried blood still on them. \
Minato places a hand on Itachi's shoulder.
Minato: Come on, guys..
Minato, Keiko, Aizu, and Shindo leave Itachi so he can have a moment alone.
Itachi: Thanks.
Itachi approaches his mother's grave and stands in front of it with his hands in his pockets.
Itachi: Hey, mom. I wish I could've known you better, but you couldn't have picked a better person to leave me with than dad. It's thanks to your good judgement that I have a true family. I have the best parents, friends, and siblings that anyone can wish for. I trust that you had good reasoning for never visiting me. With the help of my friends, I will find my way to the heart of the situation that you must've been in. I will avenge you, although I don't know if you would want that or not. Those two guys, Jugo and Suigetsu, seems to have cared for you deeply. They seemed to have came from a long way just to ask Tsunade-sama if she could heal you. That being said, you were probably a great person to have such loyal friends. An even better reason to avenge you, which I most certainly will do. One day I will revive this village and become the first Kage of its rebirth. We will be the super-power of the shinobi world. I will create a training program to assure that all noble shinobi are capable of protecting themselves and others. No one would have to live in fear anymore, people will only respect each other. I will finish what dad hasn't been able to: rid the world of hatred completely. This is my promise and my will,. I love you, mom.
