Problems with Pokemon Fanfiction?

After recently getting unbanned, I've been thinking of a multitude of Pokemon fanfiction. However, I want to avoid a lot of the problems with most pokemon fics. Any pet peeves you have with most pokemon fics?

The wrong use of 'balls' is immensely frustrating...

I noticed that in fanfics the word "eyeroll/rolled their eyes" appears at least once per page, while I've read hundreds of books where the word never comes up. It's gotten to the point where I get an allergic reaction when I see it. It's a hallmark of bad writing. Fanfic writers sell themselves short when it comes to building their character-reaction library. It's not just that their Book of Reaction Verbs is really short, but everybody reads the same one!

A problem I see a lot would have to be when the MC somehow has a legendary pokemon with no real explanation.
