I believe that Nagato was the most powerful ninja ever (other than the Sage and his sons) in his prime. He mastered all five tecniques and was very powerful in all of them. His animal summonings were very powerful; during his fight with Naruto, those things were fighting and almost winning against the toads. Keep in mind, during th Kyuubi attack, a toad was capable of temporarily stopping the Nine Tails. Nagato had a HUGE chakra reserve; I think he might have one of the biggest if not the biggest chakra reserve in history. He fought Kyuubi in it's eight form, Konoha as a whole including elite ninja such as Kakashi and Choza, fought Naruto and basically won but Hinata and the PnJ along with the fact he didn't want to kill Naruto, not to mention the damage he did to Konoha before the Shinra Tensei. Adding to that, I am under the assumption that Nagato is around 40 yrs old : Jiraiya died when he was 54 and Nagato was at least 10 when he met Jiraiya. Jiraiya was probably around 20 when they met. If a 40 year old Nagato can pull that off, imagine what a 20 yr old one can do. Adding to that, he effectively slaughtered the whole Amekagure military almost single handedly. To add to this, he also killed off many of the ninjas in ANBU Root and Hanzo. He also performed Rinne Tensei and revived a whole village. If the Outer Path was able to move, imagine how much power he had left. Nagato can also summon the Gedo Mazo and roundhouse kick every one.
How would he beat EMS Madara?
Nagato could bypass Amatersu and Tsukyomi pretty easily. Animal summons and Shinra Tensei could deal with susanoo and what would Madara do against a Bansho Tennin - stab? And Gedo Mazo
How would he beat Hashirama?
This one would be very hard. Wood release is a b*tch. We know that Hashirama was probably trying very hard and not holding back against his fight with Madara. Gedo Mazo could be the substitute for the Nine Tails to keep Wood Dragon busy, Animal Summoning Spam, Chibaku the Wood Dragon if neccesary and use Shinra Tensei to defend yourself. Adding to that, Nagato had very powerful tecniques in all 5 of the releases. This will exhaust both of them and Nagsto could win for there.
How would he beat Minato?
Shinra Tensei all the kunais he throws leaving his teleporting ability pretty useless. Then Animal Summon to stall the toads and Bansho Tennin stab.
How would he beat Hiruzen?
Gedo Mazo to keep Emna busy. Shinra Tensei, Bansho Tennin, Animal Summon, you know the drill.
How would he beat DSM Kabuto?
With Edo Kabuto is basically the strongest in the series, so let's leave those out. We all know that even Old Nagato > Prime Itachi and itachi basically beat Kabuto.
How would he beat Obito?
Well Kamui is also a b*tch. Nagato will figure out how intangilibility works and do his drill and make sure Obito can't get to near him with Shinra Tensei.
How would he beat Naruto or Sasuke/Itachi?
He didn't want to kill Naruto and could have when taking into notice what happened before PnJ Hinata came. Gedo, Shinra Tensei and if worst comes to worst, Chibaku Tensei. He would beat Sasuke/Itachi same way he would beat EMS Madara but easier.
