I made some errors in my previous attempt at this, but after thinking things through, I believe I have most of my plot kinks ironed out, and so it should work better. So, let's start at square one, again.
For those unaware, this is my attempt at rewriting my FF Dusking Eclipse in its own universe. It's still really short, in my opinion, but I can't just write like I used to. I suppose I'll have to work my way back up to that.
I hope you enjoy.

Four men stood patiently around a large basin of water – crafted of white marble, it’s simple design was the center piece of the magnificent room, ceilings stretching more than thirty meters into the air, with elegant stained glass icons depicting events…if they were past or future, only the men in the room had the faintest notion as to which.
Three of the men stood in an arc, their backs to the main doors behind them, facing a singular man, his hands resting on the side of the basin. All the men seemed to emit a sagely aura, but the singular man seemed to be the leader.
He lightly touched the surface of the silvery liquid in the basin with a finger adorned with a simple silver and emerald ring - a ripple of rainbow spreading across its surface, creating a chaotic vortex of colors…but they eventually settled, and it seemed as if the basin had become a window into the world, as the silvery substance now portrayed a young man, no older than fourteen, practicing with a wooden sword.
“I’m to assume this is the boy?” said the man on the left of the arc, a large, dark-skinned man who towered over the next tallest person by nearly half a meter. His garment was sleek and comfortable, a deep purple pair of pants with a matching jacket, which the man wore open. A silver chain draped from one pocket…was it to a simple pocket watch, or something else?
“I can certainly see that he’s interesting…The signature he emits…it’s not one I’ve ever seen before,” said the man of “middle” stature of those attending the strange conference. His hair was long and dark brown, tied back to keep it out of his face, revealing his dark blue eyes and a small scar across his left cheek.
“Indeed it is,” started the man with his hands resting on the basin – his features were obstructed by shadows, the early morning light not quite illuminating the entirety of the chamber through the stained windows, “we can tell from his energies that he is indeed…unique. Besides the obvious uniqueness of his signature, I can tell there is something more to him. Fate has chosen this boy to be the one who halts our designs. We will dispose of him, before he can do that. We’ve worked far too long and far too hard to fail here. It’s a shame to dispose of one with such great potential, but precautions must be made…Nathaniel,” he said to the purple garbed man, “I’m putting you in charge of his extermination. I care not how it is done, but make sure that it is, indeed, done.”
The man turned and left his large white caped billowing in a dramatic flourish as he did so. The fourth man left as well, leaving only Nathaniel and the brown haired man standing over the basin.
“He looks like you,” said Nathaniel, as he placed his hands on the basin, observing the boy practicing still. “He has the looks that he could have become a fine young warrior. And his signature, besides its uniqueness, is incredibly strong for someone who is ‘unawakened’.”
“…Indeed, he has the tell-tale markings of a great warrior…Even if he is the one Fate has chosen to throw a wrench into our designs…even though I understand the need to dispose of him, our grand design has come this far without a single casualty. I can’t help but think that the spilling of blood will ruin our plan, taint it…Could we be causing our own downfall, by trying to kill this boy, Nathaniel?”
Nathaniel nodded in agreement. “I do believe that we may cause our own downfall, but that is a risk we must take. Fate will do as it pleases…Even if that means turning our own actions against us. It is the greatest adversary for Man, laying waste to even the best laid plans…Hm…I suppose I’d best depart. His home is not exactly just a day’s journey away.”
“…Good luck, Nathaniel.”
Nathaniel nodded to his comrade, and both departed from the basin room, setting their plan into motion. The gears of Fate had begun to turn for these men, and the center of their grand design, stood this single boy…
