It was, but so nervous too xD, I was almost done setting everything up, and had a bit a trouble setting the mobo in there, and with the cabling, the card is really heavy, but im glad i spent those 50 extra bucks to get the backplate so that it wouldnt sag. anyhow i had a lot of fun putting it together

My sub-500(usd) rig:

CPU cost about 50 dollars on sale, encodes video at 500-1200 FPS depending on the resolution. It compiles c/c++ blazing fast in gcc. Stuck it in a Asus Z77 mobo.
RAM was about 80 dollars on sale. Kind of slow, but helps with encoding and especially in blender. Also, ECC.
GPU I got on sale for about 100 dollars. It plays games fairly well. I haven't really put too much of a strain on it.
SSD (240GB) I picked up for 80 USD.
My 2TB RAID i built out of existing 500GB hard drives I had laying around, so free. SATA II, but still effective.

All in all, it runs quite effectively on a 850Watt power supply, and does everything I need it to.
