Me and my friends are starting a band and I play bass. And I play metal. But they we're going to play a certain genre of metal, Post Hardcore ( Flyleaf, We came as romans, Woe is me, Escape the Fate, A Day to Remember) and i was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on playing for this this type of genre or to be specific any tips on how to play bass for this type of genre?

have fun with it you wont get anywhere if you're stiff as hell while playing bass...the bass is the kind of instrument where you have to be able to flow with....

Go learn to play Donna Lee its extremely hard at first and fast... 220 bpm or around there and its lots of stretches. Most people dont like it song wise but its a great warm up

Alright, well, first things first:
1. be confident in yourself, and never lose faith.
Thats one of the key variables that you have to consider.
When you're in a metalcore, post hardcore band, you'll cross a lot of people in this music scene where they hate you because of your looks, generic material, and just hate. Not saying that it's not okay to be generic. Be as generic as you can be :) but, sometimes peoples words can get the best of you. You have to believe in your abilities, and write music that you are satisfied with. Never write music like this People>You. It's your band, and you can write however you feel is perfect!

2. For bass playing, try not to make it so sloppy:
When you play the bass in this genre, its hard to keep up with most things. Technical, progressive riffs, etc. Try and bring a little groove in your playing and everything will work out just fine :)

3. Always be positive and always make friends. In this genre, friends/fans/family are the only thing that keep it alive. remember that, FFF.

any other questions? Anything about tours?

I enjoyed your music Rikuto ^^ Im probably gonna study music in a year (cant decide between guitar bass or vocal xd I do all three)which will be awesome xd and a few things to add to the bass for Crade. When you learn bass make sure you get rhythm dead on and perfect and always stay with it you and the drummer are the backbone of the band. If you screw up the odds of your band screwing up are quite high same goes for the drummer so before doing crazy things on it be awesome at rhythm xd I dont know how good you are but you most likely guess you are good ^_^ Also one last thing is my teacher (an outstanding music teacher with awesome philosophy) told me that you arent a true bass player unless you can play stand up freetless bass. So learn that if you havent already
Thats more less it from me ^^
Also if you are into hardcore music check out Avenged Sevenfol especially the Afterlife solo is godly but simple which makes it awesome and they write great music.

O: good questions :)!!!
And no problem :)

Well, first you need to get your name out any way you can. Get your friends to talk about you, play some shows and look for a manager that can handle all band funds, booking shows, etc.

I know xD It sounds impossible, but hey, I'm only 16 years old, and I did it all :) I was the manager for my band and now we're touring the US. And dude, touring will always be fun :D!! haha.

The fans and the excitement from the shows... so much adrenaline... You hardly even remember playing the show. You just know you did it. The best part about tours/shows are the fans and people that you meet. They're all so kind, and they support you.

I have so many fans come up to me and pour out how much they love my work and my band, and they literally start crying :) the worst part about tours, is that you miss your family and your home town. Even if you claim to hate them, theres this distant feeling in your heart where you can go home and give them all hugs. Nothing like the feeling of home, mate :D!!!

As for money, just save up stuff from some shows, and then you can pay artists to make designs for your merch (shirts, hats, etc.)
:D
