Possible reason why Obito would die if he wants to revive Madara

It's short and simple. The reason why Obito said he would have to kill himself to revive Madara is because Madara's body currently doesn't exist. Don't forget he died even before the Kyubi incident(which happened 16years ago). The body decomposition end around 2 or 3 years after the death of one individual, so currently Madara's body should be nothing but dust. Without a body, it's impossible for Obito to bring Madara's soul back to it. If you notice, when Nagato used the Rinnetensei no jutsu, it brought the respective souls back to the bodies

So for Obito to revive Madara, he would need not only to bring Madara's soul back, but put it inside his original body. But since Madara's body normally doesn't exist anymore because of the decomposition, he has to recreate a substitute of his body again. We've seen that

, but for that to happen, he needs the rests of the body in question. But in Madara's case, even the rests should be hard to find after such a long period of time

I even doubt Madara really wanted to be revived in that old state. So it makes sense that Obito would have to revive him in his youth, and thus creating a perfect body

For that reason i think that for a Gedo Rinnetensei to revive someone without his original body in a perfect state, the jutsu requires the life of the user and in this case only

Plausible... but his body could still very well exist... if you store a body in a dry place, it can last for many years: Natural mummification, mausolea... et cetera... and besides: his skeleton would still be around. Which is highly likely, since Obito knows where Madara died.

Still... the fact it needs to repair the body first, could very well be a reason. That, and Derp Obito wrote another good theory on it...

Nice idea but I still don't know if Obito wanted to revive him in the first place with all the antagonism he is showing at the top of the Juubi. But your theory is plausible. I think that Rinne Tensei was just in case Obito died so Nagato could revive him

That pole thing is his body and soul and whatever else in one and so when Obito or whoever revives him they use the Rinne Tensei on the pole and it will bring back Madara.

As far as i remember, he only said that pole was his will. I didn't get the part where he said it was his body and even if i admit it was indeed his body, he was old at that moment. I doubt Madara really wanted to be revived in that state. I think he needed to be revive like he was in his prime
