Yeah, he couldn't read the whole thing, I think. Only as much as Madara could read when he left Konoha. Both of them had a Sharingan/(E)MS.. but Zetsu didn't have anything.

Kishi should've made Hagoromo an actual messiah instead of being Kaguya's son

Yeah, Hagoromo should've been a normal guy (without this shitty alien backstory) who ate the fruit to stop the wars between humans.. and then fought the angry god-tree who wanted his chakra back (without kaguya, just a fallen god or something like that).
Kaguya, Toneri, Hamura and all the other Ootsutsuki are a disgrace for this manga and have ruined it. Seriously, meanwhile Naruto is as bad as Fairy Tail or other ridiculous shounen-manga. And it was by far my favorite manga for many years...

Black Zetsu tried to get previous transmigrants of Indra to awaken the Rinnegan. And to get the Rinnegan you need to combine Ashura and Indra's chakra, two opposing forces "working" together.

Actually, BZ said it about both Indra's and Asura's transmigrants since they both have equal capacity to awaken it.

OT: It wasn't meant to be direct. It was made to paint IT in a normal light (not what it actually is) and made to please an extremist mentality, since they would have interpreted it in the way Madara did, by trying to achieve absolute power by reaching the depths of the Juubi itself.
