I think that's total BS. There are many examples from both real life and fiction where someone loses their damn mind because of their significant other's death or infidelity.

There are especially tons of stories of people who have gotten revenge on their boyfriend/husband or girlfriend/wife for cheating.

As an emotionally-detached person, I'd just have *** with my girlfriend/wife one more time before dumping/divorcing her, and that'd be it. I wouldn't murder her or some $hit like you clingy bastards would.
