If Yes, please give reasons. If No, please give reasons.
With what we know at this stage, no. But I do I hold reservations for the possibility? Sure.
However, when it comes to Gods from earthly religions, then absolutely not. Religious texts have contradictions and historical inaccuracies which leads to them being debunked as credible material for the existence of a deity.
Science builds on a foundation, from bottom up. It starts with a question which then leads to more evidence gathered to explain what is what.
Religion starts at the very precipice with grand assumption that God exists without any tangible evidence and expects people to simply take what they say is truth on faith alone and not question the validity of what the texts say, even if it contradicts scientific discoveries.
And recently I've been thinking that if a God exists, then what is the point for creating so many empty planets that serve no purpose? Is that really intelligent by design?
do you happen to be agnostic?
do you happen to be agnostic?
Can't see why else he would bring up science.
Agnostic and atheist are two different things....
He asked a valid question.
I am sure there is a higher power I just don't believe that power is under the control of some intelligence. The power of nature - the laws of the universe control all that goes on. Those laws were not developed by some super being. They are just the immutable laws of the universe.
This one, the most problably the laws are fundamental and always was "there" and make our existence possible in universe by some kind of accident.
Well here's were I contradict my own logic, I don't think we (us & our world) was created by accident but I don't think what created us is responsible for our decisions throughout our existence. Anyway, though, the laws of physics are the highest power we can justifiably believe in right now. SO yes, there is a higher power. But whether or not it's conscious is a question of its own.
Some Scientists say that the laws of the universe are not as constant as they may seem, as in if another universe existed or created instead of our own, then it could operate under very different physical laws.
It's not contradicting what you're saying, but it's an interesting aspect of the conversation.
Guys, while I appreciate all of your thoughts and views, my intention was to make this just a 'poll thread' so please vote! I would also really appreciate it if you can share this thread for others to see. I'd like to get as many votes as possible from all members. Conversely, I'm planning on making another thread soon which will be similar to this but it will be more discussion based, where we can share our thoughts in further detail on this controversial yet intriguing topic of theism. Thank you! :mew:
I can't vote. There should've been a "Not sure" option.
