Previous Chapter:
The three Pokemon specialists waited patiently in the dreary Center waiting room. The light above the doorway still showed a bright red, enlightening the syringe symbol. The three had been sitting down for the three hours, hoping to see Pidgeotto again. Joy had said that the damages to Pidgeotto were far too great for a normal Pokemon to recover from quickly. As the three continued to wait, the bright red light on the syringe had ceased, leaving the room open to view. Nurse Joy appeared in the doorway, her face dark and sullen. Mason and Aaron rushed to her, asking her the same question, simultaneously, “How is Pidgeotto?”
Nurse Joy responded much differently than she does with other patients. Her voice is vain, “Pidgeotto….will never be able to fly again…It was in critical condition, but Chansey and I managed to get it back into a regular heartbeat. Not only that, but it’s wings are damaged beyond repair.”
Aaron face changed from curiosity to pure horror. Mason reluctantly stared down, his face almost black.
Aaron stammered, “This…This is my entire fault. I made the call to use my most potent attack on such a weak Pokemon.”
Aaron staggered a bit, slowly walking back to his seat, and muttering as he goes. Aaron sits back into his seat, holding his hair with his hands, his elbows on his knees. “I-I d-didn’t mean to hurt it. I-I just wanted to win.”
Mason still remained at his spot in front of Joy.
“It’s my fault. I let him win. I saw how powerful that attack was, and I didn’t act. I’m a failure as a trainer. Even though I won the league three times, I cannot believe that I did this. Tch. How foolish of me. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to look at Pidgeotto again without knowing what I did.”
Aaron was muttering the same exact thing, minus the league victories. He had failed as a trainer, realizing the safety of his Pokemon was endangered because of it. Aaron managed to stand up, walking towards the glass door of the Pokemon Center. Outside laid the dim view of Viridian City under a blanket of rain. The young trainer continued to walk, but instead of heading towards his house, he walked straight to the next route, holding both of his Pokeballs in his hand. Aaron pressed a miniscule side button on each, and threw both Pokeballs upwards. Out released both of his Pokemon with a sharp blue light, signaling the actual release of his two friends. Aaron bent over to get closer to his Pokemon.
“You two. You don’t belong to me anymore. I cannot protect you. I have failed as a trainer. Run, far from here, where
you can’t be hurt by me anymore.”
The two looked at each other in confusion and back to their trainer.
“Bulba?”
“*whines*”
The two asked their trainer sadly. Aaron turns around, tears streaming down his face.
“JUST GO!”
The two Pokemons eyes were almost tearing up. They turned around to leave, when they heard their former master’s final words.
“I’m sorry…but you two need to leave, before I hurt you as well.”
The two start to walk, and pick up speed as tears stream from their eyes. As they ran, Aaron began to walk home, contemplating his next move. After about thirty minutes of walking, Aaron ended up home, entering the medium-sized house with his head still hanging. Mason was still at the Center with Jenny and Joy, waiting for Pidgeotto to wake.
Aaron’s mother ran up to him, asking him the simple question, “What happened?”
Only this time, Aaron only answered by continuing to walk upstairs to his room, where he slammed the door ever so faintly. The young boy aimlessly lurched towards his bed, laying down and blankly staring off, numerous emotions flowing through him that he cannot feel them anymore. Aaron stayed in this emotionless state for an extremely long time. Pidgeotto had entered a comatose state, and it was unlikely that it would ever recover. The poison had gotten to the brain, and there was almost nothing they could do for it.
OST:
At the edge of town, near Viridian Forest stood Aaron, soaking from the downpour that was almost exactly like the dreaded day Aaron and Mason battled. Aaron treaded forward, into the ominous forest. Walking, crying, the former-trainer continued onward, until it was apparent that he had reached an area of interest. He stood near a nest of a Pidgey, Pidgeotoo and one Pidgeot family. Aaron screamed out, “Pidgey’s! I have taken the ability of flight from one of your family members. He currently resides in a coma, unable to move, eat or fly. What do you say to that?”
The only Pidgeot of the group shifted positions, lifting an eyelid as if to acknowledge the boy. To Aaron, that didn’t seem like enough. The brown haired child picked up various large stones and hurled them at the nests. Each stone connected with a different target, each being a family member of the Pidgeot. Numerous Pidgey and Pidgeotto fell, until it was too much for Pidgeot to watch. The Bird Pokemon rose from its nesting place, clearly angry. The Bird took flight, and a large amount of Pidgeotto with it. Pidgeot rushed towards Aaron, its wings almost glowing with an attack. Pidgeot used the Wing Attack on the boy, driving him into a nearby tree with a hard thudding noise. Aaron coughed up blood, clearly injured from the Bird Pokemon’s attack. While sliding down the trunk of the tree, the Pidgeotto began to peck away at him, drawing more blood from various cuts and bruises. The flock backed up once they thought it was enough, displaying an injured Aaron, who was bleeding all over, an eye closed, and numerous bruises all over.
As the Bird’s turned to leave, Aaron murmured something more, “I-is that a-all you’ve got? *Cough* I thought t-that Pidgeot’s where supposed t-to be stronger. I g-guess I was wrong.”
Pidgeot glared back, clearly enraged. It turned around mid-flight, preparing what looked like an Aerial Ace attack. As it moved towards Aaron at insanely high speeds, Mason was already at the Pokemon Center, thinking about his next move. Pidgeotto looked like it wasn’t going to recover, and he wanted to end its misery.
Mason sat in the waiting room, still debating on what his decision would be. As he contemplated, a large flash of fire appeared in the forest. The flamethrower attack connected with Pidgeot, pushing its trajectory away from Aaron. As Aaron’s eyes began to close, he watched as Bulbasaur and Houndour battled the Bird Pokemon flock away from their former trainer. Razor Leaf’s and Ember’s emitted from the trainers former Pokemon. As they beat the Pokemon away, a bright green flash beamed from the middle of forest. The battle ceased as the two teams watched as a light green fairy appeared. The Pokemon glowed a forest green, as well as had many wrinkles as an onion. Celebi danced around the trees and open space delightfully, until it finally noticed the amazing amount of injured Pokemon and Aaron. Celebi’s eyes widened at horror at the sight of the group, and starting pumping pulses of green energy from its leafy body. The rain stopped, many plants began to spring from the ground. The Pokemon’s injuries healed, as well as Aaron’s. Celebi pranced over to Aaron’s body, and touched his forehead, all the while closing its eyes and using some type of psychic power.
A faint, womanly, and worried voice entered Aaron’s subconscious, asking a simple question, “Why did you do that, human?”
Aaron’s conscious responded sullenly, “Did what?”
“Try and kill yourself.”
“Because, I had nothing to live for. There was nothing for me here.”
Celebi’s presence changed from worried to angry, “You are sadly mistaken human. There is much for you here. I have seen it myself. In the past, present and future, you shall live and thrive. It is not a question of who you are, but what you do with life, is what truly defines you. Now, I will follow you back, because I already know what you want to do with my power.”
Realizing that Celebi was talking about Pidgeotto, Aaron quickly perked up, “Really?!?”
Celebi responded matter-of-factly, “Well, I already did it once, so I can make these assumptions.”
Aaron chuckled, “Right, I forgot about your legend for a minute. Alright Celebi, I would love it if you would help with Pidgeotto.”
Song:
Celebi smiled happily, “Good! I would love to help.”
The three Pokemon and Aaron left for town, joyously jogging to the Center where Nurse Joy sat tending to a wounded Pokemon. Mason was still sitting there, continuing to contemplate his decision. Mason’s face still shown of despair, as thoughts raced through his skull, toying with his morals. As he got up, determined to finally make a decision, Aaron burst through the doors, with Celebi following not too far behind. Mason turned around abruptly, to already find his son rushing through the doors he was just about to enter. The young trainer was upon Pidgeotto, all three Pokemon surrounding him, panting slightly. Celebi noticed the condition it was in, and said it’s sweet maternal voice,
“Unfortunately child, I will not be able to cure it of its wings. However, I can wake it up.”
“That’s fine, at least it won’t have to live in a coma,” replied Aaron.
Celebi nodded with a smile on her face, having flashbacks from the future version of the trainer standing before her. *
“Oh Aaron, this may be the best part of your life. I will continue to watch over you, as promised.” *
Song:
Mason walked in just as Celebi performed the healing act, his entire being in awe as the miracle of the Time Travel Pokemon began. Celebi danced around the room, emitting pulsing green light from her body. The light, even though it was being projected, felt welcoming and alive, and the room’s dark appearance portrayed the light beautifully. As the blissful rays approached the Bird Pokemon, its body began to sparkle, showing signs of physical life once again. The Bird Pokemon shifted slightly, its face tweaking a bit, awakening from its comatose state.
Mason spoke first, appearing in the doorway, “It’s waking up! Aaron, where did you manage to find a Celebi?”
Aaron looked down in personal disappointment, thinking of his suicide attempt. Aaron’s head swung upward immediately, smiling in a phony matter. His happy reply was half-faked saying, “I happened to be in the forest at the right time!”
Mason wondered for a minute, and decided to run with it, “Wow, a truly right time indeed.”
OST:
As the two looked back at Pidgeotto, it was already standing, releasing its voice not-to-quietly. It tried to lift its wings to signify its presence, but was unable to complete the action. The Bird Pokemon stopped suddenly, and pecked at its wings a second, trying to get a response. To its surprise, the wings didn’t budge an inch when pecked at. The feathered appendages were neatly folded on the side of its body naturally, and Pidgeotto had no choice but to keep them there. Its expression quickly changed from incessantly happy to pure sadness.
“Pidgeoo….”
Mason and Aaron noticed Pidgeotto’s sudden lack in confidence, watching it transform into a sulking mess. Mason approached the bird, but was soon beaten by Aaron, who wrapped his arms around the Pokemon.
“I’m so sorry Pidgeotto. If it weren't for my lack of discipline, you would never have ended up like this.”
As Aaron said these words, tears were rolling down his face. Mason’s head sunk even lower, trying to find the right words to tell his son.
“S-Son.”
Aaron glanced at his father, responding, “Yes Dad?”
Mason started to shake, his hands clenched into fists, “I-It was-”
As Mason tried to talk, Jenny burst through the door to find Aaron holding Pidgeotto. She started to yell frantically,
“SO THE NEWS IS TRUE!!! Pidgeotto is miraculously back with us!”
When Jenny was freaking out, Joy slowly walked in. The Officer ran to the Bird, petting it and talking to it. The young trainer was now laughing and smiling with the two of them, happy that he now had his mind taken off of his father. Joy slipped passed all the commotion and stood next to Mason.
“How’d you get here so fast?”
Mason was still shaking, his fists clenched even more.
“I-I was about to make a decision I would have regretted for the rest of my life. Had it not been for him, I would have gone into emotional turmoil. Had it not been for me, this never would have happened.”
Joy looked at her old friend quizzically, “what do you mean?”
Mason responded in a hushed tone, walking out the doors while doing so, “I let him win, and this is what cost me.”
Joy’s eyes widened as she heard those words, her mind racing at what he had just said. The former three time champion gave up a win to his son, his only loss at that.
OST:
Mason quietly said more:
“I know what you are thinking. I haven’t lost since I went on my journey with Jenny and you. The perfect trio.
However, I’ve grown soft. I have yet to travel the world and challenge other places, mainly due to my family. This, both fortunately and unfortunately, has kept me out of the loop. But, this is the main cause for Pidgeotto’s lack of flight. I should have seen it coming, I mean, he is my son after all!”
Aaron heard this part, and smiled joyously. He was happy to learn of his father’s confession, but decided not to say anything more. The two joined the group, and rejoiced in Pidgeotto’s awakening. Celebi had long since disappeared, leaving at first break in concentration on the Time Pokemon. After celebrations were over, father and son were trapped in a riveting conversation.
Aaron asked quietly, “what are we going to do with Pidgeotto?”
Mason contemplated this for a moment, finally speaking after half a minute, “I will take him home with me. He can hop around the yard and house area with freedom. I don’t suspect him to run off, so might as well give him a collar or something to signify his owner. That way, he can leave whenever he wants. I think that is best for Pidgeotto.”
Aaron smiled in agreement, saying, “That sounds like a great idea Dad!”
Mason smiled back, hugging his son, “I’m glad you like it Aaron.”
Aaron looked up, staring at his father.
“I-I’m going to continue my journey…With Bulbasaur and Houndour.”
Mason happily responded, “I’m glad you decided to do that, I’m sure they are going to be happy as well.”
“Thanks Dad!”
OST:
Aaron bent down to get eye-level with his former Pokemon. He placed a hand on each of their heads, and asked, “Would you two like to be my Pokemon again?”
“Dour,” Houndour yelped in agreement.
Bulbasaur quickly followed suit. All three were beaming at each other, as Aaron playfully scratched Houndour’s black fur. The boy looked at his father and happily said, “I’m going to journey again.”
Mason smiled, “Great! Pewter City is just north of here. I believe Brock, the gym leader of Pewter, is out journeying again, so I don’t have any information of the current specialist. Take caution, it could be unexpected.”
“Thanks Pops, I’ll make sure to heed your words!”
Mason pats his son of the head, rubbing his hand through Aaron’s short brown hair.
“That’s my boy. Now, go out there and collect badges like none other!”
Aaron beamed as he heard these words flow out of his father’s mouth. The young trainer ran towards the door, but stopped where Jenny was standing, “I’d like to walk to my house with you. There is something we need to discuss.”
Jenny replied with a bland face, “Sure, what’s up?”
Aaron looked at his father, and said, “We need to discuss this somewhere he’s not. I don’t want him or my mother getting involved.”
Jenny looked at Aaron questionably, but began walking with him all the same. As they exited the Center, the sun began to shine, revealing a cloudy blue sky above them. The city was not too far away, and Aaron began to speak.
“I’d like to join the force.”
Jenny stepped back a step, taken aback by Aaron’s request.
“Why,” asked Jenny?
“I don’t want any Pokemon to get seriously injured by human hands. Not again. The only way to stop people like that is to join the Kanto Police Force. I’d still like to journey, but I feel that this is something I need to do,” Aaron replied sternly.
Jenny gave it some thought, having an epiphany right there.
“I got an idea. How about you continue to journey as a special agent, and whenever there is something near you, we can ask for your assistance.”
Aaron’s face brightened, ecstatic by the idea. He asked another tough question, “How will you reach me?”
Jenny smiled deviously for a moment, reaching into her back pocket to pull out an unknown device.
“This is something new, and is being employed in all police task forces worldwide. It is called the PokeGear. It allows one to call others, as well as access to a map and a radio to listen to music and such. I’d like you to have this one. I already downloaded my number on to it, but I require that you download the Captain of each city’s police force’s number as you pass through. I’m sure the Pewter City Jenny will be quite happy to see you.”
Aaron happily took the PokeGear, toggling different switches and applications. He thought for a moment, and asked
Jenny another question, “Why are all of you Jenny?”
Jenny’s smile quickly faded, but kept the same voice, “Since you are almost officially part of the force, I might as well tell you. We aren’t all named Jenny. We change our names to conceal our identities. My real name is actually Jenny. We all have different names, but you might be wondering why we all look the same too. My face is actually a mask of some sort, and will be taken off once I leave the force for retirement or leave.”
Aaron listened in astonishment. He had never even heard of anything like this. The young boy just assumed that the Jenny’s all were sisters or related. Aaron began to ponder again, asking, “What about Aunt Joy?”
Jenny smiled, “You have to ask her yourself, but I won’t guarantee she’ll tell.” *Hopefully, it’s like how the Police Force does it, because she looked quite similar to the way she does now.*
Aaron asked one last question, “Do I get a badge?”
Jenny patted Aaron on his head, placing an object on top of it. He shifted his head slightly, as the object slid off into the boy’s hands. It was golden with a blue holder, in which the flap folded back to reveal the badge.
“There, take mine. I’ll grab another one when I go back to the station in a few. We are almost at your house, so we’ll just break off here. I’ll make sure to call you in case there is any trouble on your way to Pewter. I’m sure the Force could use someone like you with the over-amounts of Team Rocket crimes. The atrocities they commit all over Kanto are completely wrong.”
OST:
Aaron nodded in agreement, and hugged Jenny happily. Only coming up to her shoulder, he was the youngest special agent in the history of the Force.
“Thanks Aunt Jenny! I appreciate everything you’ve done!”
Jenny smiled as she hugged her “nephew” back. “No problem kiddo. Call me if you need anything.”
The two separated as Aaron replied, “Will do. I’ll see ya around.”
“Bye Aaron.”
Aaron walked up to his house and opened the wooden front door. His Viridian Arcanine’s sweatshirt is very dirty, which is pointed out by his mother who greets him at the door. She makes him remove it, and vigorously begins to do laundry. Laughing, Aaron walks up stairs, grabbing another sweatshirt, exactly the same as the other. He grabs two new pairs of underpants, and one pair of jeans. As he packs them, Houndour runs up the steps, hopping onto his blue-sheeted bed. Tongue out; Houndour rolls over for a belly-rub, which Aaron is supposedly known for. Aaron takes the hint and places his hand on the stomach of the Dark Pokemon, scratching the abdomen and chest of the dog.
Houndour falls asleep abruptly, weary from the month he spent in the forest.
“Oh Houndour, I forgot how faithful you and Bulbasaur were before I lost myself. I’m glad you two are back.”
Aaron finishes packing, and plops down next to Houndour, sighing. He curled up on his bed, and quickly falls asleep. The sun had fallen at that point, and night quickly approached.
OST:
Aaron woke up abruptly, to find Houndour licking his face. It was eight in the morning, the perfect time to start his journey back up. Aaron rushed downstairs with Houndour, releasing Bulbasaur at the bottom. The three began to rush out the door as Mason and his wife watched from the kitchen table. Aaron ran outside and hopped onto his bike, and Bulbasaur took refuge in the large basket that sat at the front of the bicycle. Houndour ran next to the basic machine as Aaron took off, speeding at a nice pace towards Route 2. The sun gleamed as Aaron left to continue his ever-sought out journey. Route Two waits.

Joy’s eyes widened as she heard those words, her mind racing at what he had just said. The former three time champion gave up a win to his son, his only loss at that.
