Previous Chapter:

A Battle with Someone Special

“Alright son, are you ready for a battle now with your old man,” Aaron’s father asked in a jolly tone?

“Are you kidding me? I was born ready,” replied the new trainer, eager to face his own father.

The middle-aged man laughed, “BAHAHAHA, you seem to think you can beat me! I have completed the Indigo League and came in the Final Four in my time. However, I won’t be using my well trained Pokémon, mainly because I wouldn’t give you a chance. I shall be using two Pokemon, Abra that was bred from Alakazam, and a newly caught Pidgeotto.”

“Tch. That shouldn’t be too much of an issue. A new Abra and Pidgeotto, already giving me the advantage, however,
I’m a bit nervous, considering you are a former finalist,” said Aaron.

“Good. I wasn’t expecting you to be fully prepared. As soon as Jenny is ready, we can get started. She will be our judge. It’s fitting too, considering the way she battles,” stated Aaron’s father.

The two generations looked at the young police officer, who was astounded by the comment.

“Oh stop, you know it’s been a while since I’ve experienced a true Pokemon battle. But since you two are family friends, I’ll judge this contest of strength. We need a battlefield, let’s head on over to the Pokemon Center and borrow one of theirs. I’m sure Joy will be okay with it,” said Jenny with a smile.

Song:

“Alright, sounds good,” replied the father.

The three traveled to the nearby Pokemon Center in Viridian, which was strategically placed very close to the nearby Route One. They waltzed into the Center, arriving not too long after leaving the house. Houndour was happily walking adjacent to his trainer, sniffing the places around him, becoming familiar with his surroundings. Nurse Joy recognized two of the three in the group, greeting them immediately.

“Hey! Jenny! Mason! How are you,” yelled the eccentric healer?

Jenny responded happily, her face lighting up at the sound of her friend’s lighter voice, “I’m great Joy! How are you holding up?”

“Great! I’m surprised that you guys don’t come down more often, but I guess it can’t be helped. What can I do for ya’” asked Joy?

Mason was the first to respond, his voice resonating throughout the center due to his rather deep tone, “We are in need of your battle fields. I’m here after challenging my son who has just recently become a trainer.”

“Awesome! I’m so glad to hear it! Your Houndour is so cute! How did you manage to claim such a rare Pokemon this early in the Kanto Region?”

“Aunt Jenny and I were on our way to Professor Oak’s Estate, and found him lying on the side of the road, poisoned,” Aaron responded a bit emotionally, recalling the near-unconscious Houndour and his troubles. Not to mention the battle he had to fight after with the pack.

“Wow, how kind of you! Come with me!"

Aaron thought to himself as the old friends caught up with Nurse Joy. Their faces beamed as Joy discussed her time in medical school and work at the Center with the other two, since she hasn’t gotten a chance to see them since she left.

“I wonder what Dad’s strategy is? We are tied as far as typing goes, but that’s not all I need to worry about. Abra is an extremely agile and rare Pokemon, and also happens to be Alakazam’s child. This is going to be tough, but I’m going to try and win with just Houndour. If he gets to Bulbasaur, then I’m practically screwed,” Aaron contemplated to himself, drifting off into his own mind to discuss different plans of action.

After walking a short distance, Mason breaks Aaron from his “trance”, saying softly, “Hey, bud, we’re here.”
Aaron jolted from the sound of his father’s lower voice in his ear. He had lost himself inside his mind, wandering through a forest of idea’s and strategy. It took him a couple of seconds to gain his full consciousness, allowing himself to gather his thoughts and check his surroundings. Houndour, who had been leisurely walking beside him, grinning slightly once he noticed his trainer’s sudden “awakening.”

Song:

The four of them stop abruptly in front of a door, leading them to the outside. Aaron could barely catch a glimpse, but he knew this was his first official battle field. Mason turned around, to see his son eagerly trying to see over the shoulders of the foot taller adults. He moves Aaron to the front, so that he could be the first to enter the backyard arena. Outside, there was a ten foot tall chain link fence surrounding the area, marking the end of the Pokémon Center’s territory. The battlefield was a completely dirt field, with white lines painted all around, forming a box with a pokeball type shape in the center. Aaron rushed out to this sight, enjoying the first steps into becoming a full-fledged Pokemon Trainer.

“I take it you are excited,” asked his Dad kindly as he approached the field?

Not only was Aaron enjoying his first steps, but Houndour was right beside him, jumping around and beaming at his young trainer.

“Are you kidding me?! I’ve always wanted to battle you, and on such a professional field! This is awesome,” replied Aaron happily!

“Glad you like it. I take it you’re ready to get this battle started then?”

Aaron grinned mischievously, replied, “I’m ready to take on your two Pokemon. I bet you that I can take them both with just Houndour over here!”

“Houndour,” the fire dog agreed immediately.

“Alright Aaron, let Jenny just get situated, and then we can begin.”

“Sounds good to me!”

The two both look at Jenny, who hadn’t heard them and was talking about something with Nurse Joy. She glanced over at them, continuing her conversation in pure spite. The two trainers looked at each other, plopping down on the ground in a cross-legged position, glaring at Officer Jenny until she complied. Finally, after minutes of pure staring, Jenny was broken, deciding to end her conversation and take up her position as referee. The two guys leaped from their spots, walking over to their respective sides. Once the two had taken position, Jenny announced loudly, “Alright, the match between Aaron and Mason of Viridian City will now take place. This fight will be a two on two match. Trainer’s….Begin!”

Song:

“Alright Houndour, go for it,” yelled the young trainer confidently, sending the jet black Pokemon forward!

“Go Abra, be ready for anything,” his father released the humanoid psychic Pokemon. Abra is a bipedal, tailed Pokémon that loosely resembles a fox. It has two short, fox-like ears on the top of its head, and in the middle of its face, it has two eyes that are usually seen shut. It has a somewhat lighter color around its nose and mouth. Abra looks like it is wearing armor, as it has two pauldron-shaped pieces on its shoulders and a fauld-like piece around its chest. It, like its evolutionary relatives, has three fingers on each hand, although much stubbier, and three toes, two in the front on either side, and one in the back near the ankle. Its tail is thick and is the same gold color as the rest of its body, except for the brown band that is located around the top of the tail.

Aaron pulled out his Pokedex to gain some insider information on the Pokemon:

“Abra, the Psi Pokémon. When Abra senses an imminent attack, it escapes by teleporting.” The male monotone voice responded to its holder.

“Hmm, it escapes by teleporting. This might be a bit tough Houndour, but give it all we’ve got! Now, start off with an
Ember attack,” commanded Aaron, his voice changing from eccentric to serious. The searing coals that shot from Houndour’s open mouth went soaring towards the awaiting Psychic type, showing no sign of movement since the command had been issued. It appeared to be sleeping, although, sleeping Pokémon were generally useless in battles, leading some trainers to forfeit without properly training their Abras.

“Alright Abra, use Psychic to blow the coals away,” yelled Mason confidently!

“Aaabbbrrraaaa.”

The Psi Pokemon’s eyelid’s slightly opened, revealing light blue glowing eyes. The same color reflected around the coals, surrounding them completely, giving off a magnificent gleam at the red and blue color combination. The embers were stopped dead in their tracks, floating in mid-air like inner tubes in a lake. Abra moved its left, in turn, moving the embers away from the middle of the battlefield. Aaron watched in awe as the Psi Pokemon performed the deed, trying to grasp the power of such a small creature. He regained his composure, giving Houndour another command.

“Houndour, Smog!”

“Houndooouuurrr,” replied the Chrome skulled Pokemon willingly as it spewed violet smoke from the sides of its mouth. The smoke began to surround Houndour, covering his entire body in the poisonous smog. Houndour became invisible in the cloud, spreading the smoke onward covering almost half of the surrounding battle field.

Song: (Intense Action)

“Alright Houndour, use Ember continuously while inside the smog,” said Aaron, a hint of confidence in his voice.
From within the reaches of the purple abyss, numerous amounts of embers were launched toward the unsuspecting Abra. Mason watched in confusion as a volley of flames appeared from the smog. He quickly recovered, commanding Abra to teleport immediately, and dodge the attack. Abra hears the command, glowing white and instantly disappearing, only to appear at an even quicker pace 20 feet above the field. Aaron grinned, having already taken the chance during his father’s lapse.

“Alright Bulbasaur, Magical Leaf,” commanded the young trainer undoubtedly, confident that this move would finish the current fight. Several glowing leaves, in the form of what seemed like crescent moons, flew towards Abra quickly. Mason wondered what attack this was, never having seen it in all of his years.

“A-Alright Abra, use Teleport to dodge the Razor Leaf,” stumbled Mason on his words, still in awe about the strange colors of the “Razor Leaf.” Abra teleported fifteen feet from his current position; his usual teleporting distance in battle situations, not wanting to wander out of bounds in case of immediate disqualification. However, the shining leaves stopped on a dime, changing direction mid-flight. They leaves went right towards the sleeping Psy Pokémon once again, causing Mason to worry once again.

Aaron grinned, saying mischievously, “You cannot dodge this move Father. It hit’s perfectly one-hundred percent of the time. I can see you don’t even know what it is, and haven’t been out of the Kanto Region at all.”

Realizing his predicament, Mason commanded his Abra to constantly Teleport, his response coming in between commands, “After I placed Top Four in the Indigo League, I decided to marry your mother. We then decided to settle down in Viridian where you were born. I’ve always wanted to travel out of the region, but haven’t had time.”

“I think I may have heard that story before, and it seems like this fight is about to be over. Abra is slowing,” replied the new trainer confidently.

Mason looked upward, noticing that Abra’s teleports were slower, and shorter than before. He could tell the paladin-looking Pokemon was exhausted, not having enough time to display another attack. Aaron grinned again, swiftly commanding the idle Bulbasaur once again:

“Bulbasaur, use your Vine Whip to grab Abra from his next Teleport!”

“Bulbasaur,” the plant dinosaur responded, firing his Vine’s rapidly towards the predicted teleport of Abra. This one happened to be three feet from his last position, and the Magical Leaves were about five from impact. The vines restrained Abra. The psychic Pokemon weakly squirmed around in the natural rope, the magical leaves now three feet from impact.

“Release Abra now,” said Aaron calmly, right before the Magical Leaves impacted. He didn’t want his trusted friend to experience the pain of the attack. The glowing leaves hit Abra all over, leaving various cuts and scratches over the entirety of the Psy Pokemon’s body. The combination of Abra’s fatigue and the attack brought the Pokemon to the ground, clearly making it faint.

“Abra is unable to battle, Bulbasaur is the winner,” said Jenny loudly.

“One down, one to go. This isn’t looking too good for you Dad,” said Aaron confidently, his face showing the same mischievous grin that he has shown the entirety of the fight.

Mason replied blandly, “Hm. So it doesn’t. I’m still much more skilled than you, so don’t get too cocky. Here comes my newest addition, Pidgeotto!”

Mason threw his second PokeBall, which opened and spewed a beam of white light. A Pidgeotto appeared within the light, taking flight immediately. Aaron pulls out his Pokedex, wondering what the information on this common Pokemon is like.

“Pidgeotto, an evolved form of Pidgey. It is armed with sharp claws and dives from the sky to capture its prey. Unlike the more gentle Pidgey, Pidgeotto can be more dangerous. Approach with extreme caution,” stated the contraption in its male monotone voice.

“Alright, sounds good. Let’s start off with you then Bulbasaur!”

“Hm. Bulbasaur is at a strict disadvantage. I may have to finish Pidgeotto off with Houndour,” Aaron thought to himself nervously.

The 11 year-old makes the first move, commanding, “Alright Bulbasaur, Magical Leaf!”

Song:

The glowing leaves went flying towards the Bird Pokemon, spinning rapidly for maximum effect. Mason smiled, almost laughing at how basic the strategy was. He knew his son was hoping to get Pidgeotto to run, just to tire it out, but this time, Mason had already constructed a counter-strategy, having prepared for the attack much earlier than expected.

“Alright Pidgeotto, use Gust to blow away the attack,” commanded Mason, his deep voice echoing throughout the battlefield. The large bird flapped its wide wings vigorously, sending off powerful gusts of wind as it took the command from its trainer. The Magical Leaf stopped in mid-air, falling from the sky and landing on the ground, showing no signs of life. Aaron was taken back at what had happened; he just assumed that the Magical Leaf could not be stopped.
This was new to him, and he wasn’t sure how to get around it. Bulbasaur, being only level ten, didn’t know any moves other than Magical Leaf, Vine Whip, and Tackle.

Aaron thought to himself, “Hmmm. Maybe this could work, maybe that could work. I’m stumped…”

Aaron finally came to a decision, commanding, “Alright Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip to bring Pidgeotto closer!”

“Bulba!”

Bulbasaur shot his vines towards the Red-crested Bird Pokemon. Mason took stance as the vines approached, preparing a counter-strategy. He shouted a single command, “Shoot up!”

Song:

Pidgeotto acknowledged the thought, shooting straight up into the sky as the vines halted, and flew with it. Pidgeotto kept going, hoping to outrun the vines as soon as possible. The Bird glanced down, only to notice that the vines had stopped, and it was high above the battlefield. The Pokemon remembered what its master had told it once before, that every time it was given the command to shoot up, it was always followed by a dive-bomb Quick Attack. So Pidgeotto did exactly that, preparing itself for a high-speed dive bomb. Its hind began to glow white, and it shot towards the ground at blinding speed. Swapping altitude with speed, Pidgeotto’s entire body began to glow white. It broke through a cloud, appearing before the two trainers. Aaron’s jaw dropped, and was unable to command his Bulbasaur to move. Mason smiled as the Bird Pokemon descended quickly, hoping to end this battle quickly.

Suddenly, Aaron came to, yelling out to Bulbasaur quickly, “Bulbasaur! Use your vines to slow it down!”

Bulbasaur stumbled on its words a bit, knowing its predicament. He knew that his trainer was only trying to soften the blow that was inevitable. He proceeded to use its vines, knowing full well what it was getting in to. Thrusting them forward, the two attacks clashed, the Vine Whip being overpowered almost immediately. Pidgeotto rammed Bulbasaur, and a large amount of dust kicked up from the attack, making the final scene almost invisible.

“Bulbasaur…”

“Hmph,” replied Mason.

Out of the dust flew Pidgeotto, appearing to only be slightly harmed by the impact. Flying above the cloud of dust, it soon clears, to reveal an unconscious Bulbasaur. The Plant Dinosaur was bleeding from its side, where it had been seemingly struck by the Quick Attack.

“Bulbasaur is unable to battle. Pidgeotto is the winner,” announced Jenny from the sidelines.

“Damn,” whispered Aaron to himself. He withdrew a PokeBall from his belt, pressing the center button to enlarge it. He pointed the item towards his friend, saying kindly, “Good work Bulbasaur. You have done extremely well. Take a nice, well deserved rest.”

A red beam appeared from the PokeBall, surrounding Bulbasaur and returning it to its place. Aaron withdrew a second PokeBall, throwing it up into the air, announcing, “Alright Houndour, I need your assistance once again!”
The Dark Pokemon emitted from its temporary home, appearing on the battlefield once again. At full health, Houndour was at a major advantage towards the less healthy Pidgeotto. Aaron was about to spurt the starting command, but Mason beat him to it, saying loudly, “Pidgeotto, start this off with another Quick Attack!”

Song:

“Pidgeooo”

The Bird Pokemon called out as it took flight, accelerating at intense speeds. Its hind glowed white with speed, a trait only given to the attack. Houndour stood ready to take on the attack, as Aaron waited for the perfect moment to strike. Pidgeotto was about ten feet from its destination until Aaron gave his command:

“Quickly Houndour, use Smog!”

Houndour released a large cloud of purple smoke from its mouth, surrounding Houndour in seconds. Pidgeotto was now two feet away, giving the invisible Houndour very little time to react. Pidgeotto entered the cloud, as Mason smiled confidently. The smile quickly faded as Pidgeotto appeared on the other side of the Smog, stopping itself with a look of confusion. Pidgeotto knew that it hadn’t hit Houndour with its speedy move, and eventually, so did Mason. Aaron displayed his usual confident grin, giving another command as Mason wondered in confusion.

“Now Houndour, use Ember towards the east fence!”

Houndour didn’t take the time to reply, immediately firing a line of Embers towards the confused Pidgeotto. The Bird Pokemon didn’t have enough time to dodge the attack, moving only to receive the least amount of damage possible. A couple of embers made contact, burning some of the feathers on Pidgeotto’s wings and chest. The red crested bird screeched in pain, falling to the ground after the attack.

“No! Pidgeotto! Are you okay? Can you get back up,” yelled Mason in a worried voice?

Pidgeotto slowly stood, using its wings to push itself up from the ground. The look of pain on its face was almost unbearable to watch, but its fighting spirit allowed it to continue. It finally stood straight, taking flight immediately after doing so.

OST:

Mason proceeded to command Pidgeotto, hoping that he could finish this before his newest Pokemon was hurt any further.

“Now Pidgeotto, get rid of the Smog with a Gust attack!”

Pidgeotto flapped its wings violently, sending large gusts of winds towards the cloud of poisonous purple smoke. Aaron reacted as the attack started to clear the smoke, commanding, “Houndour, jump and use Ember towards Pidgeotto!”
Houndour spewed the small flames towards the flying Pokemon. The embers flew towards Pidgeotto kept flapping its wings.

The attack almost reached it, until the gusts finally slowed down the Ember enough to stop it and make it fall to the ground. Pidgeotto stopped flapping its wings out of exhaustion, taking a rest on the ground. Houndour had landed by this time, the two of them on their respective trainer’s side of the battlefield. Mason and Aaron smiled at each other, knowing full well that this might be the final attack. The two raised their arms and pointed at the opposing Pokemon commanding:

“Pidgeotto, Quick Attack, full power!”

Pidgeotto set off towards Houndour at blinding speeds. Aaron commanded Houndours counterattack, “Alright Houndour, use the Smog-Ember combination attack!”

“Smog-Ember Combination attack? I wonder what that is,” Mason thought to himself?

The two trainers watched in anticipation as Houndours mouth spewed Smog from the sides of its mouth and fired Ember simultaneously. The Embers were then surrounded by a purple shock, the label of a poisonous attack. Pidgeotto collided with the embers, which effectively slowed it down to a near stop. However, Pidgeotto kept going, increasing its speed once going through the attack. Aaron noticed that despite the Bird Pokemon continuing, it kept being hurt by the Poison that had affected it after breaking through the attack. Houndour didn’t have much time to dodge, taking the Quick Attack head-on. Pidgeotto and Houndour flew back from each other from the impact, and landed harshly, kicking up sand.

“Houndour, NO,” screamed Aaron!

While doing so, Aaron noticed that a silhouette of the Dark Pokemon was visible through the dust cloud. As Houndour leapt from the dust, Aaron saw that Pidgeotto did not follow suit. It was lying on the ground, visibly being poisoned. It had no more will to fight. The Bird Pokemon had given up. Mason rushed to his new friend, scooping him from the ground and ran to the main lobby of the Pokemon Center, where Nurse Joy had returned. Jenny had stumbled on her words as she noticed Mason running out:

“Pidgeotto is unable to battle; Aaron is the- Hey Wait! Is Pidgeotto alright?!”

Mason replied as he reached the door, his voice full of concern, “No! The poison seems to be affecting it way too much. I must get her to Nurse Joy quickly, before it actually loses consciousness. After that, who knows what could happen!”

Aaron and Jenny looked at each other, and nodded their heads in agreement, sharing their feeling through the simple gesture. The two rushed to join Mason, talking on their way.

Damn, I wish I was familiar with Pokemon >_>. Sadly, I can't comment on the story since I'm not so familiar with it. However, I can say the writing style was good and to me, that makes this worthy of a comment and some rep. As for criticism:

Aaron pulls out his Pokedex, wondering what the information on this common Pokemon is like.
The bold should be 'pulled out' Being consistent with tenses is very vital ^_^

This might not make any sense: I don't think Hondour will beat the Pidgeotto, Mason seems to be a retired champ and this Aaron's just a kid; a 'new trainer'

Also, I kinda liked the Abra since I like all that can teleport and move really fast(Fourth Hokage Flash, etc) Can't believe he lost. The world of Pokémon is strange and interesting.

You see, the thing about this is, you don't know why he lost. I actually wanted Mason to win, but I decided against it last minute. There is a reason for that.

And I would check out the first 4 seasons.

You've been asking me to read this for a while... When I finally got here... I realised I already read this once, just forgot to talk to you about it... :(

So, here it goes!

I like the way you're writing this! The style is very cool and easy to follow the story!

When it comes to battles, you're always very precise and clear describing us, readers, what exactly is going on! There's not much else I can say, so... Awesome! :p

Better on this one, though there wasn't much transition so that probably worked in your favor right now.

Good job on action scenes, very concise.

Not a lot to say here, you did an excellent job on this one. Uzu pointed out the only real grammatical problems I believe, so I don't really have more.

Keep it up.
