Rocket

Aaron’s hands were shaking slightly, his nervousness finally taking root. He looked down, clenching his fist in anger, as he watched the side-effects of his worry. The situation itself made him angry, as he had absolutely zero room for error. If he failed, the entirety of the mission would be jeopardized, and they might lose a few hostages and items in the process. In front of him walked Forrest, who was taking Aaron to the secret back entrance of the Pewter City Museum, where the young Task Force member would enter. This way, he could infiltrate from behind, and do what he needed to.

“You’re shaking. Are you alright,” Forrest asked concerned, hoping that this wasn’t too much pressure on an eleven year old boy.

Aaron looked down, and noticed his arms had been shaking violently. He clenched his fists, trying to release the tension that had been built up. It was rough, but the young boy would be fine, as Aaron was already walking in with an almost sure-fire strategy. He sighed, and spoke calmly,

“It can’t be helped. It’s typical of someone my age to be nervous, but I am not discouraged. Are we almost there yet?”

Forrest and Aaron arrived at a door to a very small “cottage” that was connected to the back of the Museum. He pointed at the door, revealing a key. Forrest responded sternly, showing the seriousness of the oncoming events,
“here is the door. I will open it slowly and swiftly, as to not shock anyone. There, you will find yourself in a room, where a locked double-door lays. Open the bottom one, as if you open the whole thing, the thieves WILL see you. There is a counter next to the door, so you should be able to hide behind that. That’s about all that you need. Anything else?”

Aaron replied, also showing his determination and seriousness, “no. Thank you, Forrest.”

“No problem, now, let’s do this. I have already contacted my Father.”

“Good. I’m ready.”

Forrest walked slowly and quietly to the door, and placed the key in the lock. It opened with a quiet “click,” and the Pewter City Gym Leader barely opened the door to view inside. He looked at Aaron, giving the thumbs-up, and motioned the Task Force member to move toward him.

OST:

Aaron approached the door, taking out his Pokeball, labeled with a green leaf sticker. Inside laid his starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur, who would play a large part in this event, as some of his attacks were very necessary to the operation. Forrest opened the door swiftly, as he had stated before, and Aaron summoned his friend from the capsule instantly, quietly running inside right afterward. The room was dark, as no one had been inside, but nobody was watching it, as very few new of the door that was situated behind a refrigerator. Aaron noticed a strange light coming from underneath a crack, and had discovered the double door that was where he would infiltrate the base.

“Alright Bulbasaur, I’m going to peek in, see if anyone is at the door, and then I will give you the all clear. After that, I want you to go in, and hide behind the counter to release a large amount of your newest attack. Houndour and I, in
the mix of what will probably be confusion, will bust in, donning the medical masks I had saved in case of a Smog emergency from Houndour. After everyone is asleep, open the windows with your Vine Whip, and await my orders from then on. Houndour and I will try and take care of the rest, but I’ll need your help.”

Bulbasaur, who was already used to his trainers extensive stratagems at this point. The Grass Starter smirked a little, revealing its happiness that it had such an intelligent individual. Bulbasaur replied with a resounding, but quiet,
“Saur!”

Aaron nodded, happily, ready to finally start the mission at hand. He felt his way to the door, feeling for the bottom handle, and opened. Aaron could hear voices outside, but they weren’t as close as he was worried about. The door cracked open ever so slightly, as it was crucial that nobody heard. Aaron looked around, noticing that the nearest guard’s feet were maybe fifteen meters away. The young Task Force member motioned to Bulbasaur, showing him the door, and allowing his Pokémon to gain access to the main room. Bulbasaur moved at the sound of a ninja, able to hide behind the counter with ease. Aaron then closed the door, and waited. He thought to himself, slipping on a medical mask, and holding Houndour’s Pokeball in wait.

OST:

He thought to himself, “I hope Bulbasaur is confident in this new attack, because it needs to knock out both humans and Pokémon alike.”

As Aaron thought, Bulbasaur was already in motion, releasing a steady, but low stream of constant Sleep Powder spores, so that it wasn’t too visible. It could adjust the quantity by adjusting the opening from the bulb on its back. People that were lined up in packs or against the walls, holding their knees began to yawn as they grew tired from the spores. One of the kids in the crowd took notice to that, and brought his shirt up above his nose, as to only breathe in filtered air. He was the only person to do so, but it wasn’t surprising. People who were trainers would understand what was going on.

The kid thought to himself, “If only I had my Pokémon, this operation could go down easier. However, they took all that I had, like the thieves they are. I’ll just have to wait and see what the status is.”

As the bodies hit the floor from falling asleep, Aaron poked his head through, to make sure that all people were taken down. Noticing that it was all clear, the young trainer continued through the door, and crawled out behind the counter. It was rather peaceful now; as everyone was asleep, save for one kid. Aaron took notice to this, since the kid was covering his mouth, so he wouldn’t fall asleep. The Task Force member approached him, noticing that the kid wasn’t much younger than he was, even though Aaron looked rather old for his age (maybe one or two years older). The kid looked up, noticing that the boy with a Viridian Arcanine sweatshirt and jeans, who happened to be infiltrating a compromised museum, was holding a facemask for him.

“You seem to know what’s going on. I can assume you’re an experienced trainer?”

The boy nodded, pulling out two pokeballs and speaking softly, as to not alert the people who were still awake above. He looked down, smiling under his mask to Houndour and Bulbasaur.

“The name’s Drew. Short for Andrew and we aren’t talking about my height here. Do you know who these guys are?”
Aaron shook his head, unsure of the enemy that was before him.

“They are Team Rocket. Rocket is an underground organization that buys and sells Pokémon, drugs, items, etc, and has their own research corporation. These guys run the entire underground, and recently, they’ve been trying to steal fossils for some unknown use. From what I hear, the grunts use Pokémon that like to chip away at their enemy.”
Aaron had a small gleam in his eyes, as this Drew was pretty handy to have in this exact situation. Even though he didn’t know him too well, it was good to have someone by his side for this operation, who knew enough about it to keep the mission interesting. The young Task Force member walked near the stairs, and quickly asked Drew a question,

“Is there anyone other than Rocket up there?”

Drew shook his head, knowing full well that something was about to go down. The look that Aaron gave off was one of need to battle, much like he had, and it was nice to see someone with that same battling talent. He unclipped one of his Pokeballs, which had been firmly attached to his belt since they recovered Drew’s belongings from the Rocket members. Aaron moved silently towards the stairs, where he had been situated before. The young Task Force member signaled Houndour to move up the stairs, which it did ever so silently. Aaron whispered an attack with such pitch, that only the Dark Pokémon could hear it. Houndour nodded, baring its whitened fangs. A deep purple smoke bellowed from the Demon Dog’s mouth, floating up to the higher deck.

OST:

“…Hey! What’s that,” cried the Rocket members as the Smog attack began circling above them. The purple smoke would be rather suspicious to anyone, really.

Drew chuckled a little at how pitiful the Rocket members were. Even though this was a robbery from the largest syndicate in Kanto, it wasn’t done by a professionals; that was for sure. To let an eleven year old boy to waltz in and out-strategize you was a big no-no for a syndicate this large. However, there was something off about this robbery, as the Rocket members usually carry Pokémon like Koffing, Ratata, Ekans, and other Poison, Normal, and Fighting types, or so he had been told.

Aaron rushed up the stairs, followed by Drew swiftly. The young trainer pulled the mask off of Houndours face, and gave it a command that was intended to be followed to the tee.

“Houndour, anyone in black garb with a black cap hit with an Ember in the leg or foot. That should be enough to cause them pain, but not wound the people. We need these guys alive for the Police Force. Bulbasaur, follow Houndour and wrap everyone up with vines, or put them to sleep with low amounts of Sleep Powder. I will take the left flank with Drew, because I trust you guys enough to take care of these people on your own. You guys take the right flank. They are dangerous, so watch out.”

After Aaron was done commanding his Pokémon, Drew made a quiet comment to him as they finished running up the stairs,

“These Team Rocket members seem off. They aren’t flaunting their Pokémon, like people usually say about them, and they aren’t treating people like garbage.”

Aaron’s thoughts were clouded on the subject, and it really didn’t matter to him who they were, as long as he put an end to their escapades. Aaron and Drew moved quickly, shifting their bodies to their right, and began to flank the left side the room. People were huddled all around, and Aaron made the first move quickly. Noticing that one of the Rocket members was aiming to pull out a Pokeball, and attack Bulbasaur and Houndour right away, Aaron decided to cancel that thought process, and punched the Pokeball out of the “Team Rocket” members hand, catching it easily.

The young trainer tossed the ball to Drew, and left swiftly to begin moving people downstairs.

“Damn. He’s moving very efficiently,” Drew said, and pulled out two Pokeballs. It was time he unleashed his partners, as they were specifically given to him by his father. He opened both, revealing an Omanyte and Gastly. The first was astounding, as the Omanyte species was thought to be extinct, and hasn’t been seen in a while. Aaron glanced over, a weird look on his face as Drew released the Fossil Pokémon from its ball. The young Task Force member smiled, glad to see that his new friend had a great combination. Drew commanded Gastly and Omanyte to follow Aaron, and Constrict/Hypnosis each enemy.

“Keep at it Omanyte and Gastly. You need to put all of these enemies to sleep. We need them for the interrogation.”

Omanyte and Gastly continued their movements, placing many intruders under Hypnosis, or constricting them into blacking out. The intruders fell, one by one, ending up on the floor or in the laps of hostages, who would, in turn, hurt them as much as possible. Drew winced slightly, knowing how angry they were at the “Team Rocket” members. The young boy quickly turned around, noticing that Aaron was already finished with his end, and had met up with Houndour and Bulbasaur at the furthest wall. There, sitting on top of a, what seemed to be, space shuttle, was the “leader” of the group. A lankier man, who wore a black suit with white, shiny, boots and a jet-black bandana, was calmly smiling at the young Trainer. Aaron’s face read of anger and revenge, hoping to take out his emotions on someone who would prey on the weaker. Drew was not far behind him, following Omanyte and Gastly to Aaron’s current position. The lanky man stood up, and leapt off the pedestal, gently gliding down to the hardwood floor.

“I see you have taken out my subordinates. I guess it’s not hard, they weren’t that strong anyway. But you did it without a battle, so I’ll give you kudos for that. However, I won’t be so easy, as I covered my face in the Smog attack, and wasn’t hit by Hypnosis.”

Aaron cringed furiously. He was very unhappy with how prepared the man before him seemed to look. The eleven-year-old almost yelled, filling the room with a high-pitched sound,

“HEY! Battle me, you scum! How dare you take these people hostage!”

The Rocket Admin shrugged, pulling off a “meh” type of facial expression. He reached behind him, unhinging one of the three Pokeballs from the black belt that was mandatory for Rocket members. Throwing it before the two young boys, a sturdy Golduck appeared, looking strong and with a veteran aura. Aaron was taken aback a bit, knowing that Houndour would be a bad choice in any situation.

Drew sat there, amazed. Typically, Rockets carry Poison, Normal, Rock or Ground types. What was this member doing with a Golduck? It was another mystery that has yet to be solved.

Aaron pointed forward, looking at Bulbasaur as he did so, “Okay Bulbasaur, lead us off!”

Theme:

Bulbasaur leapt forward, squaring off with Golduck as their trainers did. They found themselves in an almost perfect indoor battling scenario, where four walls could keep their attacks from collateral damage, and no other humans were in the area, other than the three trainers. The man placed his hands in his pockets, and leaned against the shuttle. The battle, he thought, would be far easier than any the man had faced before. Aaron began his command, stating loudly,

“Alright Bulbasaur, begin combination one!”

The Grass type acknowledged the move, and set two vines flying through the air at breakneck speeds towards Golduck. They were upon the water type in no time, causing ripples of air along the ground as they moved. The Golduck braced itself for the incoming pair of writhing snakes as they hissed towards it. The Team Rocket had his eyes closed, almost as if he didn’t care about the match that was taking place. He knew, above anyone else, that the Golduck would win. It was battle-hardened, facing the pinnacles of the mafia of Team Rocket. The scars of its many battles could be seen all over its body, and it looked rather intimidating. The vines closed the gap between the top Pokémon, and it had a very minimal time to react. Its eyes lit up, and a faint aura shrouded the water type with a glow. The vines stopped, now becoming enveloped in the same shroud. It was Confusion, a psychic type move that allowed a Pokémon to control an object for a minimal amount of time and strength. All that Golduck could do at this point was stop the vines, until its trainer had time to react.

“Nice going Golduck,” he said, “when you release them, duck down.”

As the Rocket Admin gave the order, his pokemon received slashes from two perfectly aimed Magical Leaves on its stomach. Aaron was not keen on killing any Pokémon, even if they were Rocket. The pain caused Golduck to become unfocused, in which it dropped the confusion, allowing the vines to strike its body and shove it into a nearby wall. The impact caused the wall to crack slightly, leaving a minor imprint of Golducks back on it. It bounced off, landing on its stomach. The Rocket Admin grimaced, and looked at Aaron in anger.

“You bastard. Two moves at once? That seems a bit unfair.”

Aaron chuckled a little, “I’m not going to just sit here and let you react. This is a Pokémon battle, not a video game. I’m surprised you wouldn’t understand that by your rank.”

He replied, “of course. I didn’t think I would have been outsmarted by an eleven year old.”

Aaron took a bit of offense to that. “I’m a Task Force member, what did you think was going to happen?”

“You’re a fed?”

Aaron replied, smirking, “mhm, you better believe it!”

He was taken aback by the new information presented to him. It wasn’t like he had never faced a Task Force member before, but it was something of awe facing one of that age.

“Alright,” he stammered, “then I’ll stop going easy on you.”

The young boy snickered a little bit, and then blurted out laughing hysterically. “You’re going easy one me?”
He stopped, looking completely serious, and said calmly, “that’s hilarious. Alright Bulbasaur, combination 2.”
Bulbasaur recognized the command, preparing itself for its next attack. Its lengthy vines once again released from their holdings, moving forward to attack the near-defenseless Golduck. The Rocket Admin shouted a command, and the vines seemed to stop immediately. At the end, they began to freeze up, covering the tentacles in long sheets of frozen water. At the end of the vine sat Golduck, blowing a flurry of frozen air. Bulbasaur continued to push the vines forward, but it didn’t cause as much damage, as the frozen appendages just slid straight off the arms of the opposing Pokémon.

“Ha! You really thought that would work a second time?”

Aaron just stood there, and snapped his finger three times. This signaled the start of combination three, which was only a back-up for the previous. It was meant precisely for when the vines missed. Bulbasaur then began sprinting, taking in its vines as it advanced toward Golduck. While doing so, its bulb shook a little, and the opening widened. Out came a plethora of gray spores. Golduck inhaled the spores, and began coughing rapidly until it eventually fell asleep. Aaron noticed that his plan had worked, and gave what he thought would be his final command.

“Alright Bulbasaur, use Magical Leaf!”

OST:

Bulbasaur leapt into the air, and aimed toward the sleeping Golduck. It was over for him, and the Rocket Admin knew it. As the Magical Leaves struck his Pokémon, he reached into his shirt, and pulled out a pistol. Aaron was shocked that this would escalate this quickly, and began right away with putting his hands up. The Admin said, angrily, “you may have won the battle, but I still hold all the cards! Good luck smarting your way out of this one, Task Force Agent!”

“tsk. I have no counter to this attack.”

What will happen!? Will The Rocket Admin escape? Find out next time, on Pokémon!

"when Pokemon meets real life. Small child with better tamed fighting animals, meet...MY GUN ATTACK!"

Haha, good chapter. A few small typos (e.g."...wasn't carried out by a professionals", no plural necessary.), but you'd probably catch those on another read through. I like how much more effect the attacks actually hold against the pokemon; the description of how beat up the Golduck is, having been a veteran of many battles, is a nice touch which adds a bit more dimension than the original series tends to.

Don't have much to say beyond that, other than that this is very solid. Would definitely like to read more.
