Why wasn’t there a group of ninja that targeted Madara with poison? Would that kill him?

Actually this is an interesting point I would like to discuss:
It's quite possible this happened in canon. There is heavy evidence to suggest this.
It happened with Sasuke- a nukenin- and Jiraya in some fillers.
It happened with most ninjas.
Why wouldn't happen with the like of Madara that was conquering various clans?
Specially when he suggested that nobody can take his back, maybe he is impling that people alredy tried it.
