but it didn't I guess. after all... minato and his chakra were split to 2 different kurama's .. that explains it..

He just assumed and usually when a person comes to help someone in a life and death crisis, they are usually friends. Plus Sasuke/Hiruen cld have explained a few things on his way.

This is the answer probably. Next to this, Minato seems to have his dumb moments, as in this chapter Tobirama mentioned (like father like son comment). So Minato might have forgotten.
