So Madara stated that he is planning on using Hashi's Senju powers to take control of Obito but I can recall that Hashi tried to lock down Obito with his senju power and failed..
so how is it possible for him to accomplish that when Hashi failed?

Madara does not need to use rods to control hashirama... hashi is trying to beat obito already... rods would just get in the way of complete manipulative control. His trump card may very well be the alliance. Madara could just step back while the alliance fights obito. Once obito is beaten, madara just steps in, and wins because of the time limit and being edo...
