i agree i remember when Hiruzen was stronger than Hashirama, Tobirama, and Orochimaru combined and when Orochimaru was feared across the world along with Kakashi and when Itachi could fodderize Naruto and Sasuke.

the war is technically over, the arcs in order were

shinobi world war arc, ten tails revival arc, and currently in the madara revival arc.

and if you think about it the war has long been over ever since the edo's were removed, now they were just fighting obito and then madara.

It'll end soon once Madara is done playing around with Guy, Sasuke and Naruto are left to fight em which should be the last fight.
