Why you ask? my answer is simple.... so I can crush my enemys with the very ground they stand at.... use the doton release as a force to aid me in battle... and also to rip these idiots who face me and send them straight forward into oblivion!!!!!!!!!!!you can notice that gremmy eyes was filled with excitement as he was mentioning his true reasons, you can tell that gremmy was kinda like a psychopath for a minute.

Doton is also very useful since earth is pretty much all around us so it can be a great benefit for us in term of strategic battles. Also Earth is strong against water because earth naturally contains water or absorbs water to the point when it becomes muddy then dries up but weak against lightning because it can easily travel through and break the ground apart.
Earth-natured chakra is a component of the following kekkei genkai: Wood Release and Lava Release.
It is also a component of the kekkei tōta: Dust Release.
And there if I must mention people who are known for there earth release then it gotta be the TsuchiKage.

If you're fighting on the ocean, there would be many earth techniques you're not able to use, because most of them need an earth source as well. So the terrain is very important.

I want you to sit down on the ground. Grab the nice round stone next to you, close your eyes and meditate. Try to feel what the stone feels like. The coldness, the texture, structure. Let your chakra flow, and concentrate on the stone. Try to 'communicate' with the stone. Let your chakra flow into the stone and try to mimic the stone with your chakra. Tell me what the earth chakra felt like.

Gremmy silently sits in the ground and grabs a good looking round stone. gremmy then closed his eyes in a meditate position and state...gremmy started to feel the stone, feel its texture, its coldness and structure that at one point gremmy started to become, act like the stone.. he became completely stoned. He then started flowing his doton chakra to the stone and concentrating at it in order to communicate with the stone.... After a good 20-30minutes gremmy opened his eyes, you can see the gremmy eyes has changed as its completely calm and stoned. Gremmy stands up and says.. the earth chakra felt steady and strong, holding its own with great toughness and strength like our earth... the earth chakra is quiet unique and special... it makes the person strong and steady like this stone... however..Gremmy crashes the stone with his hand...This stone aint strong enough to hold its own in this dangerous world we live in.... in order to beat and crush our enemies... we need to be merciless and tougher than this stone....and I believe by mastering the earth release, it will allow me to take one step forward to my dream.. now sensei lets start our training..Gremmy says with confidence..

btw, you're underestimating the technique. Be creative and you could even dodge an S rank jutsu with an earth pillar.
For this jutsu I want you to dig into the ground until you are beneath my clone. Then reach out of the ground try to pull the clone into the ground by his leg until only his head is on the surface, trapping him in the ground while you emerge from it. The funny thing is you can't use it if you don't know the hiding like a mole technique, because that's a technique where you dig into the ground. but for the training let's just say you dig into the ground in some kind of way.

Brief description of how you perform the technique: Gremmy digs into the ground reaching all the way under Khalil clone.... then without Khalil clone noticing, gremmy hand emerges under him grabbing Khalil clone and pulling him down all the way into the ground leaving his head attached outside in the surface. Gremmy then bends down and looks at the clone and instantly pulls out his kunai and cut the clone face into half

I wont personally use this technique much because if the enemy discovered my location then its pretty much over for me... however I think its an okay sneak attack.

Now grab a chunk of rock laying around on the ground and mold it into the shape of a staff using you doton chakra. Either hit my clone with it, or throw it at his head. A pretty useless technique if you ask me

*Khallil sighs when Gremmy disobeys and throws the spear staff at Khallil himself instead of the clone. Khallil simply reached out his right arm, with his palm facing the tip of staff. Khallil gave his skin a steel like quality and grabbed the tip of the spear with his bare hand and crushed it.*

since this doesn't require hand seals it will be a quick sneaky attack the opponent in order to distract him and damage him... its also great to use against taijutsu users.

Perform the rat handseal and control some sections of rock, and move them around my clone. Cause the sections to turn into 2 gigantic sections and crush my clone.
You will need to continually release doton chakra from your body, channeling it into the ground and transform the ground you are touching into fine sand. This will allow you to dig through it like a mole. Not only that, while you are underground you should be able to sense your location and people on the surface. Try it out!
Manipulate the ground with your earth chakra and cause a few spikes to erupt out of the ground, impaling my clone.

you can use this technique to merge two gigantic stone in both sides of your enemy which kinda restrict his movement and taking it to your advantage while in the same time crushing your opponent...

1. cannot preform this jutsu close range.
2. people can notice that merge of the gigantic rocks and make counter to it.

It can be used to disturb and interrupt enemy movement by creating spikes underneath them that damages them, and its amazing to use in tight positions and create a counter attack.

1. no handseals required.
2. great jutsu to interrupt people movement
3. great against taijutsu users.
4. counter attacks can be open for you from this technique.

Brief description of how you perform the technique:
Gremmy closes his eyes as he concetrate his nature doton around his body then starts channeling the doton chakra to the ground under him, transforming the ground under him slowly into sand which allows him to dig inside the earth deep to hide yourself.

It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth. While inside the earth, the user cannot make handseals and can only use Earth techniques below C-Rank. If he tries to do a higher ranked technique, he'll disrupt the Hiding like a mole technique and be left crushed.

Gremmy smiles as his eyes widen with excitement, he focuses his earth chakra into his body then quickly channels the doton chakra toward the earth manipulating it and molding it creating spikes that erupt out of the ground beneath the clone skewing him which makes the clone disappear in the process.

about the stone spikes, it could be such an awesome jutsu if used correctly. You might use a very very strong jutsu just as a destraction, and use the stone spikes to kill the opponent. The stone spikes are also great for interrupting someone's move, and prevent them from performing an action.

Send doton chakra into the ground and cause the ground to shake it a little bit. Could be a nice move to interrupt someone's move. Try it on me. I will run towards you, trying to punch you, and you cause the ground to shake to knock me off balance.

Learn these 2 jutsus with a nice combo. Perform the tiger handseal and manipulate the earth chakra beneath my clone, causing the ground to turn into a river of mud. This will throw my clone off balance, and carry him away. Then perform 3 handseals and create a dragon head out of the mud river, shooting mud bullets towards my clone.
these 2 jutsus are a given combination. Try to think of for each jutsu another combination. Btw, just fill out the regular template, but this time instead of two, I only need 1, big, combined description.
Perform a small sequence of ahndseals, and by manipulating doton chakra, creat a large amount of rock pillars, erupting out of the ground. Control the rock pillars and surround my clone with those pillars. Easy U_U

pretty weird question, if I get what you mean I'd say no. You basically just manipulate chakra ina rock causing it to be dislodged, breaking and falling down, no need to think on atomic level.
