I just watched some local documentary about gamers. What caught my attention is that I didn’t know there’s actually a team that competes internationally. Like they have this basecamp for practising 8-12 hrs each day, just playing computer games.
I’m not much of a gamer. So I’m asking gamers out there what do you all think about computer playing games being a sport or like being a professional gamer? Sounds fun?
‘Cause playing computer games is more of an entertaining thing to do rather than being pressured to win.

IMO, E-sports is a good way of making money when it comes to companies that host tournaments, and for gambling when it comes to people in general. However, its insidious side is that countless kids think that they have a chance to earn money by becoming a pro gamer, but in reality the probability of this is almost nonexistent if we compare the amount of real winners who earn a lot of money with the amount of gamers worldwide. Therefore they just waste their lives in front of their screens, harboring false hopes and losing precious time and health.

So basically Shaz wasting 7 years of his life, then acting like a shonen character who will achieve his dream one day

I don't think he ever wanted to become a pro gamer, to be honest. As far as I know, he has barely played any competitive games that allow to earn money by winning. But then again, who knows. :lol

I don't see any problem with it. Some people enjoy watching video game competitions, just like how people enjoy watching sports.

You also have to remember that there are international tournaments for games such as chess as well. Not all sports have to be athletic.

Although it's probably not as fun as it sounds, much like game testing. You'll have to play the game non-stop in order to beat other professionals. So I can imagine that playing a game professionally gets stale after a while.

Yeah Counter Strike, league of legends, and now Overwatch!

I used to be a Counter Strike guy. But I lost my Sharingan, so I'm not about that life any more.

Also, some start early – drops school and just pursue it. I'm just worrying what will happen to them if they don't want to pursue it anymore. What other jobs could they possibly do after gaming? Compared to those who had some good education. Their life is also a gamble like a game they're playing.

Well that's true of anything; from the decision to go to college, to the major you pursue. Life itself is a gamble and success is never a guarantee.

In an ideal world, it'd be great if people pursuing their dreams become successful all of the time. All I can hope for is that this is what makes those people happy in the long run.

There was a couple arrested almost 3 years ago when they let their baby daughter die at home while they were playing an mmo in a local internet cafe.

Most of them become YouTuber or twitch streamer and make good money too.

isn't it the same case for people trying to pursue their dream of becoming a pro athlete?

I wouldn't say that I recognize e-sport as a sport as I always think sports is something involving physical activity.

I see it more in the lines of playing chess or golfing or billiards something along those lines.
It has plenty of potential considering that more and more people are going into entertainment nowadays and our source of entertainment is broadening to new fields one as such is gaming.

Gaming now is no longer becoming just a leisurely thing but rather something that people would actually wish to participate in whether as an audience or as a participant. Gaining more audience base really do set it up for future events to the point where even now, we consider it as e-sports.

The only reason why it has such a bad rep is because back then, gaming's sole purpose was to pass time as no one really wanted to watch it played.

Well, true. I didn't think about that. That not just gamers, but anything to do with the internet can make more money now like bloggers, youtubers, etc. So that's the generation now? More on easy tasks at hand and pursuing their own passions... basically not having to live up with a stable job before

I think a healthy person shouldn't take that as sport, they should play but, with moderation.

People who can't move, disabled or some other stuff can take it as sport in my opinion.

But whatever. Everyone is free to do what they want.
