This story is a continuation of the 2001 Planet of the Apes movie featuring Mark Wahlberg. For those who have watched the 2001 movie, they will know that the ending has been in question ever since. This is not meant to explain the ending, this is meant to use that ending to create a story of what may been if a sequel had been created by yours truly in TV show form. In all honesty, I created this because I wanted to write something that people could read and enjoy and already have an understanding of. So here we go.
Point of divergence...
Thade learns human history and technology from the Oberon and convinces the apes that if given freedom, humans will do to them what they have done to each other for thousands of years. Thade returns to power and leads a pogrom to exterminate all non-compliant humans. He also orders the ship Leo crashed landed in to be brought up and the apes study its technology and that of the Oberon. With the power from the pod as a booster, they raise the Oberon and with an army of apes now armed with weaponry based off of human guns, Thade goes after Leo. Due to the ‘first arrives last’ deal with the time travel, he arrives in America during the Civil War in 1863. Thade claims that they have come from the future and are the next stage of human evolution. Thade becomes instrumental in putting an end to the Civil War and when Lincoln’s term is up, Thade announcing his candidacy and goes on to win after an unopposed election to become President of the United States of America.
Story begins...
Having traveled back through the magnetic space cloud, Leo arrives back on Earth and crashes onto the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. He walks up to the monument on the president seated upon the throne to see, not Lincoln, but General Thade. Engraved in stone are the words, “In this temple, as in the hearts of the apes for whom he saved the planet, the memory of General Thade is enshrined forever”. The whir of police sirens coming closer draw Leo’s attention away as he turns around to see a half dozen police cars come to a screeching halt with fire trucks right behind. The officers rush from their vehicles and aim their weapons at Leo. More officers are coming in as the police move closer. The fire trucks are unloading to smolder the flame from the space pod. Leo walks out onto the steps, bewilderment on his face as he sees the faces of everyone else. Apes. They’re all apes.
